You can buy a 20mm freeze plug and install it into the passage to make sure it doesnt happen again if that is what the issue is. You would of course need to buy a new intake mani gasket (lower mani to block).
i think she has fate i just pulled my upper intake mani and the gasket must not of been in right or something because u can see right where it was leaking coolant into the middle iron ports im gonna get some freeze plugs and try that out thanks dude for savin me lol

do a search in first gen section on freeze plug install. Im pretty sure its 20mm and you will only need 1 whereas first gen engines need 2. I am thinking you tap it into place with a 1/2 inch socket and some say to put a VERY THIN amount of RTV around the freeze plug before installing to make sure it seals 100%. Take your time with this.

Again, TAKE YOUR TIME WITH THIS.

Good luck,

-Ian

I think Ian means the lower intake manifold to the block, not the upper intake manifold, there shouldn't be coolant going through your upper intake unless you have major problems. You have to pull the lower off also to see if the two o-rings are there.

I'm not sure if this is what you mean cause you said upper intake but just wanted to clear that up.

Could be fouled plugs also. Coolant doesnt like to burn very well. May want to pull them and rinse them off with some brake cleaner and let them dry off for a min (may as well do ghetto comp test to make sure) and reinstall.

edit: don't mean to sound like I'm asking for help. I enjoy doing this with my own hands. I would take donations... but anyway, I digress.

Probably just pushing it too hard. It was right around freezing temps out and it was pushing higher boost because of it, so around peak power it popped.

I do, too, can't remember exactly which they are though. I might have gotten streetport intakes from Mazdatrix and the exhaust from RB, or vice versa, or both from one (srsly can't remember). What do you have?

I got the motor apart and I'll only need to replace a housing and rotor, so I'm set for porting templates. I like the way this motor behaved, it'll be similar with just higher output this time around FPR, 1000cc or 1200cc primaries and 1200cc secondaries, Rotary Extreme track vmount OMGYES, 6puck clutch (couldn't find a solid disc clutch for my power goals...), 17x9 Vesta Try Force Zelda wheels (yes, you read that right. they look awesome), prly BNR Stage 4...

edit: ...well, and apex seals.

I just keep toying with the idea of getting rid of it, but I don't think I could actually do it. I wouldn't have the heart.
At some point, I'll have money again, and I'd like to put a 20B in it.

Back from the dead. Phone number is the same as before. I have no problem posting it out here for anyone who wants to contact me. Five-Six-Three-590-5687.

Also, a quick recap of what I've had going on -

Sold the dark blue S4 for a hefty profit. Bought a big turbo 2003 GTi which is getting sold soon as well. Still have the yellow S4 (my baby). Still in Des Moines with the girlfriend and her 4 year old son. My son was born December 17th. Officially starting Audi training sometime soon. Loving my job at the VW/Audi dealer. That's about it really.

I've had thoughts about getting back into a rotary, but I'll probably end up buying a truck or SUV first. I do miss my RX-7, but not sure if I'm ready to get into another money pit. lol How's everyone else? I wouldn't mind seeing you guys again sometime this year!

Weekends will work best for me, Saturday moreso. I think we should shoot more towards April, that way at least all the snow and salt is gone for sure and it will be warm enough. Also, might be a good idea to pick a place we could hang out without weather influencing things. A parking garage would be a great idea and then doing a restaurant somewhere close by.

Saturday or sunday is best for me as well. April would be good. Im guessing Iowa City, Cedar Rapids, or the QC? I think last time was here in Dubuque, right? It has been a while since we've gotten together then.
