Going single, Microtech, what else do I need?

Okay, I'm sure it's been asked, so if you can help me find the end-all-be-all thread to answer my question, great. Otherwise, here it is:

First of all, 13B RE motor going in 91 Vert FC. Converting to single turbo (TO4E) and will initially run very mild boost levels, but obviously bigger plans in the future.

I know I need to upgrade to a Walbro, just haven't forked the cash over yet. I've got the plans for the IC. I'm at the EMS now and trying to decide. Will the Microtech do everything I need?

It sounds like the LT8 is what I need? I took my notes home, but where is that link that showed diff between the LTX and LT series?

The microtech will handle all fuel and ignition requirements, right? So do I still need to get an FPR?
Since no mentions of boost, I assume I would have to get a boost controller elsewhere also?

It seems like the microtech line is very priced very reasonably considering its capabilities -- just would like to have some reassurances from actual users.

Thanks!!

stock FPR isn't cool as aftermarket. why? because aftermarket holds the pressure really well, while the stock FPR isn't very nice to tuners, MikeL from teamfc dot org, used stock one to 350HP, but i wouldn't trust it, ie ENGINE FIRE.

boost controller u have to get.

and remember you need injectors!

LTX8 is the bomb diggity, comes with coils that can handle 500HP+

since i'm not aiming for super nova HP, i got LT8 series because it's cheaper and stock T2 coils can handle alot!

Uhh what??? The stock FPR doesn't leak, you're talking about the Pulsation Damper. 2 totally different parts.

The problem with the stock FPR is that it is outflowed. People tune around it no problem though.

Bingo. And at the price of an aftermarket rising rate FPR it's kind of a no brainer, what is the malpassi $200AUD and you could probably find it cheaper than that if you hunt around a bit.

So sounds like for sure I need to get the Boost controller... any recommendations for a budget minded guy like myself?

Also, pirahna, you mentioned folks have tuned around the stock FPR, not sure what you mean - can you elaborate or point me in that direction? Otherwise I can just plan on getting one anyway...

I did forget about the injectors.... Haven't really researched that yet -- any recommendations on sizing there? Will I need to modify my fuel rails or anything like that? Definitely an area I am completely unfamiliar with as of yet.

thanks for the help so far -- please keep those ideas coming!!

I had and absolutely LOVED the Blitz Dual SBC. My buddy Jimmy has and loves the Profec-B. Both are good, simple controllers. Me? I'll be using the AVC-R, thankyouverymuch.

The stock FPR is too small to flow enough fuel to support big numbers, and keeping rail pressures constant becomes a problem. Ditch it for something better.

As for injector sizing... I don't like to go over 760cc/min primaries, since at a 15inHg 750 RPM idle, injector timings are around 1.3ms (near the lower limit). On the other hand, the closer the injector primary vs secondary injector sizing, the easier it generally is to make the transition smooth. Really, it all depends on your power goals. I don't know if the 13B-RE injectors are side- or top-feed, but you'll have to keep that in mind.

ok, gotta get an FPR then. Rising rate I assume? Looks like summit carries a holley "turbo" version for $190

Crap, those freaking elec boost controllers are expensive. No low buck options? I've seen these manual ones floating around, is that even a consideration? XS manual boost controllers between 80 and 130 or so?

Found another thread that indicated the Cosmo primaries are 550cc side feed and the secondaries are 550cc top feed. (both are new style plugs) huh? okay, well I need to go find some threads on injector basics and read up.

But anyway, it sounds like I need to up the primaries a bit, but it seems like everyone is running larger secondaries too? like 850cc or bigger?

ack... so many decisions to make.

depending on how much power you want to make you may need bigger than 850 secondarys, something like 1000cc or 1200cc, im running 4x1200 and 2x550,

get a turbo xs 2 stage controller, with the 3 adjustments i think they call it the professional version, these work great.,

So will the regular Walbro keep up w/ all of that? I was just looking at those again and it seems like it may be a limitation. Maybe I should spend the $250 or so and get the Nippondenso unit?

My problem is I want to start mild, but what would suck is to spend money on parts that will only let me run mild. Know what I mean? I'm just struggling w/ this a bit as I don't want to go overboard on prices, etc. But I don't want to get all this crap done and they say, well if I would have spent an extra $100 on this and an extra $200 there I could safely run 10 more psi and make 150 more HP...

anyway, thanks for everyone's help thus far, this sort of turned into a non MT thread.

I use a manual boost controller. It was 15 bucks, and it rocks.

I don't know what the difference is between TurboXS and regular manuals, but for the price, I think they are outragous for a manual. You can make a manual one with different settings very cheaply. I got mine at http://www.dawesdevices.com. If you're going to throw down 100+ for a setup, you might as well go all the way and get a nice electronic one with a solenoid.

That's my opinon anyway.

THE FPR IS A NECESSITY!!! When tuning a standalone EMS it is absolutely mandatory that you have a FPR that is set and solid. If you drop a Walbro into an otherwise stock T2, it completely whacks out the balance and you have to go with a FPR, the stock one is crap. I am using a Aeromotive 1:1 FPR , raises on a 1:1 ratio with boost. You can pick one up for about $140 from summit racing. The walbro will supply plenty of fuel and outpreforms the nippondenso unit. After the walbro, there are the MASSIVE pumps designed for the Supra TT's.

Another thing about the FPR. If you are dropping a 13b-RE into a Vert you dont have an option, this has to be done.

I've seen some info on DIY manual boost controllers, but I thought they were all 'bleed' type? Is that bad? I see that Dawes unit and looks decent, and it indicates that it is not a 'bleed' unit. I'm assuming they mean they don't just bleed off excess boost?

Maybe I need to lookup the thread on the boost controller and see. Otherwise I see a TON of manual boost controllers on Ebay for less than $20.

Definitely going to buy the Walbro now and see if I can locate that FPR on Summit. Need to buy a e-fan from Summit anyway.

Id stick with a manual boost controller, and if your using a t04E, than get a FPR. I wouldnt get one if your using the stock turbos though.

Here is the FPR off of Summit -- I'm assuming this is the good stuff since it's a rising rate type. -6AN fittings seems to be what I want also. $130 seems reasonable.

You got it man! that is the exact same one I have. Aeromotive is top notch stuff. My friends and I use their stuff extensively in our cars(my buddies are all into domestics, I used to have a few boingers) and they make outstanding products.

but is -6AN big enough for fuel lines? I thought -8AN was pretty much the standard.

dunno. I noticed a statement on rx7store that -6 was the typical 'RX7' size, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's big enough.

need to get a WG and BOV still to though...

u suck.

Been looking at those Tial 40mm WGs.. man those things are nice, but can't find any for less than $350. I guess it's either that or the HKS -- either way I'm going to end up spending better than $300 just for the WG. *sigh*
