Don't the stock 5.0 have like 225 HP? and are close to 3000 lbs?

Early 90's late 80's low compression engines. Can be made fast but out of the box they are rather slow.

Quite slow stock. A tad faster than a stock D16 in a civic sedan.

I smoked my friends 5.0 by a car for almost a block before he caught up and walked all over me. But he also was not a very good driver wich I think has alot to do with it.

rated @ 225hp, they made 220 at the wheels. GTs were 3400lbs, LX Sport's(base models with a V8) weighed 3100-3200 depending on your source, and the SSP(police cruiser) weighed in at just under 3000lbs. The vert was ungodly heavy, no matter how you slice it. Stock GTs were good for 14.5 in the 1/4 mile, and mind you that's with 20 year old rubber. Much like stock FDs are quicker today with new tire tech, so are stock 5.0s.

a stock 5.0 has 225 hp, 300+ft/lbs of torque

i have a 5.0, 300 ft/lbs. of torque is fun as hell on the streets

for under 2 grand, there's a top-end kit that'll make 350hp/tq

As far as I know 5 speed vs auto makes a big difference in those cars (stock for stock). The auto is pretty weak, that could be why it seemed so slow (if it was an auto).

I have a 5spd gt w/ tubular k-member, strut tower brace, saleen racing springs in front, ford motorsports lower control arms, HD clutch, alum. driveshaft, lsd

It handles really really good in the corners. Ive come to the conclusion you can make any car handle superbly well, its all in the suspension setup.

i just have to do the rear suspension, then tie the front and back subframes w/ subframe connectors.
