I really want to jump on this but its not DRY carbon. I would be willing to pay more for DRY carbon over wet carbon. Let me think about it.

I'm surprised nobody else is looking for a more "race" type dash/interior like I am. This post is really just a sort of sub-bump for what I'm proposing. JKL, you guys think I should start a whole new thread to gauge interest. I definitely don't want to clutter your stuff up against your wishes at all.

Problem/options

I signed up for this but I have a few reservations/issues.

I modified my dash to incorporate Autometer gauges so I cannot use a standard part for that. I would have to ship what I have created so that it could be covered or made special. Can that be done.

It is the same with my transmission/center cover. I would need one with no holes or something as I have a LT1/T56 combo in my car.

If these two options are available, count me in and please let me know how to proceed. Thank you and sorry for the difficulty. Can someone tell me who I need to contact to get things sorted?

On a side note, I may also be interested in a more race version as well as the rear view mirror granted the price stays reasonable.

We can put a list up for this item, but until we get enough ppl, we will not offer this part. Right now, a lot of individual/custom parts requests are popping up and all of them will require new molds. So unless there are enough interest in this mirror piece, we will have to leave it out.

First, the dry carbon we are trying to offer is 100% real pre-preg dry carbon and they will require a whole set of different molds and equipments to produce. So the cost will be much higher. We are estimating the entire 6 piece set will probably be marked at around $2000 if 6 sets are ordered. As you can see now, we are not even getting very active interests on the regular wet carbon kit. So I highly doubt that we will get enough interest for dry carbon version. We can always come back to this once there seems to be enough interest.

Do you mean Carbon Kevlar? Yes, we can do carbon kevlar. I will need to make sure if the production facility currently has the materials or else they will have to order them. If they end up having to order new rolls of the materials, we will need to place at least couple sets order.

Don't worry, we are not ruling out individual piece orders in this GB, all we are doing right now is to see how many full kit orders we can get. By the time our prototypes come out and test fitted, we will start accepting individual piece orders and you will also be able to get some GB discounts.

Since it seems like a lot of people have done some modifications to their interior, we will try our best to accommodate. As far as race dash, please show us a picture of what you are referring to.

Also, we can offer some pieces with no holes so you can custom cut it to however you like. But it will obviously require different molds, so either we get enough interest in a particular custom design, or we will need to charge a little more on these custom requests to cover part of the new mold costs. Please post pictures of your current custom setup so we can have an idea of what needs to be done. We will not be able to wrap your interior pieces in carbon for you since we do not offer these services.

We will need about 8-10 deposits in order to initiate this GB. If you are interested, please send a $300 deposit to sales@jklre.com
You MUST put your forum name and the exact item you want in the description field when sending paypal payments. That way we can keep a better record of your payment status and identity. It will be difficult for us to keep matching emails, real names, and forum names every time when we search through our records.

If no order details have been included for your order, then please update it as soon as possible so we know what parts you want.

Come on guys, surprised there isn't more interest in this Group Buy!!

How much was the deposit again ... JKL any chance you can list the deposit amount in each of your posts so that we don't have to go through the whole thread to find the amount?

sure, sorry about that. The post above has already be edited to include the deposit amount.

The Carbon Kevlar version will cost more than the regular wet CF version. Prices will depend on the amount of orders we get and the cost of materials. However, it should only be a reasonable amount of price difference and we will get the prices once we start the prototyping process.

I can't really find any pictures of what I'm talking about exactly, but I'll try to describe it . . .

What it would be:
Basically, it would be the whole dash without any of the vents or glovebox. To finish it out, the climate control panel and DIN panel would be "blank". No holes for the stock dials, *****, etc. The user could then carefully cut it to place toggle switches, gauges, LEDs, etc. The "blank" shifter console piece would likely accompany this well.

Who it would appeal to:
Those of us who are really closer to race cars than street cars. Someone who still wants some aesthetic semblance to a street car, but none of the excess weight/complication associated with the OEM stuff.

Personally, I'd only be interested in dry carbon were these to be made. I understand that it is more costly, but to me the added rigidity, as well as the finished appearance, is well worth it.

I'll try to look for an example. If I find one, I'll be sure to pass it along.

In short, it'd basically just be a mold of the stock dash setup with no holes whatsoever for vents, *****, etc. Those things would be left to the buyer to fashion.

Hope I made sense

Well ****, looks like I would need the street version. To the Vendor, give me a few more days to see if I can come up with the $300 for the deposit.
Thanks,

Hey CarlB if you're interested in the Gauge cluster/AC Panel and shifter console, I'm intersted in the door panel plastics, that's a complete set. Wanna go in together on a complete set???

JKL, Is that ok with you?

I am hesitating to send in my deposit because first, i really wanted the set to include the cubby (mine was gone when I bought the car, and I really wanted it)
Second, there seem to be another thread people talking about Overlays on our plastic interior parts which is half as much and that kept me from getting into this GB.

Is there anyway that you guys are gonna include the cubby? Let me know.

If so, how much more? Or an estimate of the approximate total cost?

Hey guys, got a pic demonstrating, in part at least, what I'm talking about. (Pic courtesy of MotoTek)

Obviously, this is an FC, but do you think you could make something similar for the FD?

Lemme know.

Thank you kindly.

Silver / White Carbon

I am waiting for an answer on Silver Carbon before I put a deposit - there are also three clarification points I would kindly ask for:

- I am not interested in the cubby hole, but want to make sure this will be closed (ie. no hole) otherwise it will be really ugly

- What is the final descision on the passenger side handle ?

- What is to happen with the ashtray ?

I thank you in advance

PS +1 Overlays are really crap

I dont mean the Hole itself. I wanted it to include the cubby (the cover) I shall say? I really dont like the cubby all exposed and having a "hole" there. That is why I am asking if they actually will make the cover for the cubby itself. Sorry for not being clear enough.

Yes, it is okay with us, as long as all 6 pieces are included in your order, it will count as a full base kit order.

We will figure out the detailed pricing info once we get more interests on the cubby lid.

Yes, we can do that as long as there are at least couple people interested but we might have to charge a little extra to cover the new mold cost. So is it only the AC panel you want with no holes?

Yes, we can do silver carbon fiber and I believe we have already announce that, but I don't blame anyone for not catching any info in this thread. For the passenger side handle (the grip part), we want to avoid making them out of CF due to its shape and application. So what we can do is maybe making them with alternative materials depending on the amount of interest we get. We have not yet received any other direct interest on ashtray, if we get more interest, we can definitely look into it.

This is why I think the entire project will take longer than we anticipated since we just keep getting requests on adding additional parts to this package. Alright, how about this? We will keep the base kit as 6 piece as described by mdude then we will have individual interest lists for all these additional parts requests and as soon as we get enough interest in a certain part, we will make it happen.

This way, we will not have to keep delaying the base kit production and **** off those who just want the base kit.

Don't worry, we are not ruling out individual piece orders in this GB, all we are doing right now is to see how many full kit orders we can get. By the time our prototypes come out and test fitted, we will start accepting individual piece orders and you will also be able to get some GB discounts.

So here is the super long list as of now, so if you got any other parts requests, feel free to post your suggestion here and we will see if there are enough others interested to make it happen. This is your chance to speak up!

We will need about 8-10 deposits in order to initiate this GB. If you are interested, please send a $300 deposit to sales@jklre.com

OK. That works for me as long as what we want combined covers a complete 6 piece set - as indicated by JKL.

I wanted to wait and see how far this progressed before asking some questions. A few things have been gone over, but not really settled on. As far as the shifter "hole", how does that get covered up? Also, what was the final consensus on the map pocket, is that going to be made? There's some talk of a "cubby" and I didn't know if that was the map pocket you were talking about or the little compartment underneath the cd player. If it is the map pocket, are we looking at the entire compartment or just the lid? If it's not going to be made, that's going to stand out a lot amongst the rest of the carbon on that side. Same deal with the ashtray, can something be made for that? In every picture of carbon dash's in the RX-7 I've seen, the ashtray stands out a lot due to it not being covered.

As far as the mirror cover is concerned, I see that jknapik is the only one interested in that. I actually have this part, not the mazdaspeed version, and would be willing to talk to him about selling it.

The no hole version of the shifter panel will require a new mold which will have that hold covered. We will probably just have that hole part replaced by a flat surface. Yes, as far as I understand the terms, the map pocket lid is the cubby lid. We will try to offer that as an additional piece which you can purchase separately. We will not make the actual pocket unless enough ppl request it. As far as today, we still do not see enough interest for the cubby lid yet so its still on pending status. Again, for any part to be made, we need enough ppl.

Update:
We are currently on the final state of sourcing all the parts and are planning on starting the sample production in 2 weeks.

As far as the RHD version, we will check to see if we have access to RHD piece molds already. If we do, we will offer them. If not, as you can see, we do not yet get enough interest to make new molds, we will not offer them until we do get enough ppl.
