AZ And then there were two...

I've been a member of this site for some time now so I figured it was about time to introduce myself. My name is Kasper and I currently own two Rx7s that I love. I am originally from Denmark and moved to the US and A in 1988. I grew up in Kansas City but I've been living in phoenix, AZ for almost 4 years now. I am 26 and work for a fancy euro car dealership in Tempe, AZ. I take pictures of the cars for the website and drive them every chance I get/when no ones looking. www.iautohaus.com is the home page.

I had no idea what an Rx7 was when I bought my first one. At the time I barely understood the mechanical workings of a normal piston engine, and if you told me there was an engine without them I'd think you were crazy. I was 19 and I needed a new but had no idea where to start. My father told me his boss had a car I could buy, and that it was a two door coupe. The second he showed me a picture it was pretty much rotary love at first sight.

He neglected to mention not only that it had not run in almost a year but also that it was a manual. I hadn't driven manual before and I was hoping I could drive the car to work that day! Luckily the car just needed some air in the tires, fresh gas, and a new battery to get started. After about 15 minutes of coaching from my dad I was off in my surprisingly amazing for $400 Blue 1986 Rx7 GXL!

I daily drove the car for many years without issue, save for a major initial folly on my part. Me being young and dumb took the car to a dealer to see what I was getting into. The dealer mechanic told me among the laundry list of issues was that I was leaking fuel and he would call the cops if I tried to leave. Nearly $2,000 down the hole and it still leaked oil. That was the point I discovered the value of learning how to fix a car yourself. I love everything about the rotary engine and since buying that first one I've scoured the far reaches of the internet for all of the information I can find. Lots of busted knuckles down the road I'm actually quite handy with a wrench, experience is the best teacher.

Unfortunately while I was in europe the engine blew when my friend was driving it (read street racing like it was new). The car has pretty much sat in storage since then, I just can't bear to part with it. Several years down the road I now have a new 1989 white GTU and it makes me feel like a fool for having strayed so far from the rotary path. After a dismal time in bland Suvs and an even lamer astro van I guess I had almost forgotten how much fun rotarys can be.

Some of the best experiences I've had are Rx7 roadtrips, more often than not I'll meet another 7 owner on the way or some one that's interested in the car. I want to now more than ever have both of my 7's back on the road. Thanks to all who've posted so much valuable information on this forum, and for taking the time to read my long winded nonsense.

Kasper
