3 belts? 2 belts? what? whats up with that?

ok, so I stopped at a bunch of autoparts stores and they kept telling me I have three belts.... but I don't.. I have two... let me count, yup one two... so I had to pull the alt/airpump belt off and have them match it, which they got close and now I'm off to the auto store again, to get a bigger belt..

are the stores just wrong? or is there something different about mine? I mean I have my airpump, a/c, p/s, w/p, and crank.... its all there....

I haven't had a chance to go by the dealer because I want a certain brand belt that they don't carry.

They probably list three belts because of the "a/c delete" belt. It's a shorter belt so your PS will still work if you take the A/C out. There are belt routing diagram stickers on the underside of factory hoods that show this.

NAPA listed 3 belts... the difference was between an auto and a manual trans, one of the belts (I can't remember which) is the same on both, and the other one is different... That's what I found when I replaced the belts on my brother's 94.

The auto air pump is smaller diameter than the manual air pump, so the belt is different lengths. Some stores also list w/ or w/o a/c, and so there is another option. All FD's had only 2 belts.

I concur with RotaryResurrection's explanation.

we've established that already, I just didn't know why, or if my motor was from a different year...

I told them to give me the "longer" belt and the second longest belt.... and they were a "close" match to what was on there before... they were the original belts and they didn't have them in stock so I had them give me the next size up, which was about 1" longer which was fine....

The "factory" ones are just going to be what ever that mazda or region sells... Not like the thermostat.

Personally I use a the Goodyear Gatorbacks, they they work very well.. I've used them on MANY different cars and they are resistant to stretching as well.
