Someone painted the chrome!!!
Ok guys I got my old car back and some one painted the chrome on it, and well I needed that part to be shiny again. So this is how I did it. I hope this helps some of you that want the chrome look back in that old trim.
This is after I blasted the paint off with the parts cabinet...

Then I used this product...

stage one...

Stage two...

stage three...

buffing compound I used...

After I buffed it...

On the car...

And yes the car goes in for paint this winter LOL she will look beautiful when she comes out from her hibernation.

No not the back it was painted blue but yes I found black under it, and the trim on this chrome was chrome and tipped with black plastic only black one on my 83gs is the lower window trim

Only bright metal trim on a stock SA exterior was the door/trunk/gas cover locks, the antenna, the lug nut heads (and wheel centers / rim if you had alloys) and (in Japan) the license plate light covers. Oh, and the headlight retainers & the screws on some of the exterior lights if you want to be picky.
On early SAs it was painted a dark silver-gray; was switched to black before 80.
That did shine up rather nicely, and gives the front a whole different look in my opinion. Great job!
So if, say, the OP had an early SA (like me -
), do you have a source for that color on the trim? What did you use DD?
