New from Chicago 'burbs
So I've been lurking for a few months and now I finally got serious and made an account. Which is one step closer to me actually getting a 7. I'm looking for a FB as I really like the look of them. The biggest issue is that I'm in the rust belt and finding one that is in good shape is a little hard to come by (had the same problem obtaining my Bronco)
I'm a sheet metal fabricator/welder by trade and work for an environmental company in which I work 4 10 hour days. It's great when Friday rolls around I have the entire day to myself when my daughter is at school and my wife is at work.
It's been a while since i've built a car, the last couple of cars I built where:
1991 Mustang, ported heads, f303 cam 5sp swap, NX 150 hp kit. This was in the latter part of the 90s. Back then, I didn't have a bottle heater and couldn't get the pressure up so I would put the bottle on my waterbed (yeah..i was a teenager) which helped a little and was rather careless act in itself.
1993 Chevy 1500; buddies truck but commissioned me to build it. Simple 383 stroker with world cast iron heads, S-trim and horrible TBI. It was still rather slow even with 373s in the rear. The intake was such bottleneck.
THere's a few others.
So, this leads me to wanting a RX-7 FB. I want something small, lightweight and classic. I don't care for FC or the high cost of a FD. Plans would be making sure the car is up to par on all the normal functions then start upgrading from there. It won't be a daily driver but would like to make it a spine hurting, ear deafening, hooligan car but keep it looking clean.
So while I don't have a weekend warrior car this is what I do for fun. I race r/c cars. Nothing like a bunch of grown men playing with toy cars. I've raced sport bikes for a while (drag racing) and racing these toys brings the same type of adrenaline; albeit not as much, as racing a motorcycle. I would be on the track at the strip for maybe 1 minute (burnout stage run my 10 seconds, return back to the pits) at least with the r/c cars I get 6 minutes of fun.

I found this old BMW 2002 at a junkyard and just had to have it. It has the typical midwest rot to it, but it was neat when I put hte 15x8 on there and fender flares. Ironically this rusted out hoodride would gather a crowd around it when I took it to the local car show.

My old 3 series with coilovers. Great car that I purchased as a daily beater with 140k on it and drove it to 230k miles. Great cars.

I've been wanting a project car for a while. I've looked at mustangs again or even an F body, but findng a clean car to start with is a little hard. Usually the initial purchase price is too high. With the FB (in my area) finding a nice unmodified clean example isn't to hard. Also the prices are still reasonable.
