Long time listener, first time caller...
'Bout time I got around to posting up. It's Allan here. Some of you know me as the "license frame man".
My first RX3 was bought new in '73 a gorgeous Angel blue, the first RX2 I saw was in Okinawa way back in '70.
I was hooked on rotary power delivery on my first test drive and have been addicted ever since. We learned how to make them fast and out of necessity we had to make them last. Had a sweet new RX2 also a '73 that got the first RB mods that were available.
Another great car was a new '76 RX4, first 5 speed 13B. Eventually set up like a street Trans Am car by Tri Point using their RS carb and streetporting that combined with the tall rear gears gave 30 mpg @ 80 mph and 180 hp. That one got stole in '88 w/ 280,00 miles on it.
Still looking for that one...
Like all of us then in the '70s, it seemed like forever waiting for the 2 seater sportscar to come out...they gave us the Cosmo! It was worth the wait, though and I kept my '81 RX7 till only recently. I usually have 4-5 RXs around the house.
At first I wasn't to happy with the FCs, then another long wait for the FD...only we were brought up on affordable RX7s, not Porsche prices. If Mazda would have brought out an N/A option I think we would have imported FDs for many more years...and worked on the bugs.
As I said I do advertising license frames for the auto and performance industry, including most of the rotary shops you know. My main supplier is one block up the street from Racing Beat and since the mid "80s I've been driving past RB in Anaheim at least 3 times a week. Trying not to be too much of a pest sneaking around their builds of their race cars and projects...it was always tempting to see what they were making.
It worked out pretty good though as I acquired the California Coupe in the late '90s, the '87 TII used in all their catalog R&D...an awesome street/track car.
The the best Christmas ever last year wheN I got the call to ask if I would like to buy the the California Roadster lightweight...Jim Mederer's daily driver, and their California Haulin' '89 B2000/Turbo II show truck (3,200 miles!) GULP!!
So I've been flying as high as you can get in rotary fantasyland since then...if you know the cars you know what I mean.
Someone said I'm a private collector now..hah, just very fortunate to take care of some RB classics for awhile.
I come here to see if if I can visit with some old friends, like Johnny who I didn't get a chance to say hi to at SS 12...but if he can be a noob, well so can I.
Talk to all later, guys.

That worked okay...

This is the first of my 3 Racing Beat cars. The '87 California Coupe at Sevenstock 5.
This car has all the original prototype RB parts that were developed for the FC second gen RX7s in Racing Beat's catalog. The first exhaust system, suspension R&D stuff, the California nose kit, all the goodies you see in their parts catalog.
The only part not there is the original motor, it's had a few. I've had it since the late '90s, it became available when the FD was to be developed.
The Turbo II truck and the Roadster came to me at Christmas time...

Sorry no pics at this time...somebody got some at the Double Tree this year at Sevenstock 12...
Racing Beat built 10 of these elaborate nose kits 20 years ago for about $2,000.00 back then. Like the catalog ad sez..."this is the nose Mazda should have made".
The headlights still pop up, it has 626 corner signal lights under the smoke lenses.
When you "flash to pass" the brights show thru the smoke lenses and it's just bitchin'...you can almost drive that way I suppose.

I happened to see one of their earlier outdated catalogs recently, the red car was shown in that catalog...it did look really good.
They made 10 kits, maybe 12
