Late Fathers RX7
Late Fathers RX7
Hello!
Wow, I haven’t posted on a car forum since my clubsi Honda civic days!
My name is Todd and I live in the southeastern corner of Ohio. And I recently lost my father last August ‘24. It was unexpected, but something good come from it.
In reconnecting with his friends that I had not seen in a really long time, I discovered that his best friend still owned the RX7 my father sold him in 2002. And it had been sitting in the garage ever since the left muffler fell off around 2010!
Seeing the car again about brought me to tears. My parents had separated and I spent a lot of time in that car as a youngster.
Immediately I said I wanted first “dibs” if he ever thought about selling it. And about a month later he said “you know, I’m never gonna get that car running again. Make me an offer”
So I got the car!
88 Mazda RX7 convertible. Manual transmission. Black interior and exterior.
Im slowly just going through it. Drained the bad gas. Replaced fuel pump. Filter. Lines.
Now I’m replacing belts and rubber hoses etc.
But what brought me here and finally made a login? Trying to get a handle on the exhaust system!
The whole air pump thing is driving me crazy. I’ve determined that I want to keep everything close to stock. The car has 81K miles. It’s too good of shape to be a drift boi.
So I’m here because I’m sure I’m gonna keep coming back again and again trying to figure out what I need.
Thanks for this community!

First off, condolences on your father's passing. Secondly, welcome to the forum. Its nice to see another fellow Ohio resident! If I can be of any help with the car or if you're looking for any small parts, feel free to shoot me a message. A lot of what I have, I would give away just to help you out and help get the car on the road.

Thank you for reaching out! I was curious if there was anyone else in the Ohio/area that was on this forum.
I'm getting closer to attempting a fire up.
I just drained all the coolant out of the block and radiator and getting ready to flush and install new thermostat. Was going to get the garden hose, but its currently frozen to the ground! And the idea of hauling jugs of water to and fro the house to garage yesterday didn't sound appealing. But once I get that done, I have the fuel pump and fuel lines all replaced and installed in my freshly re-done fuel tank.
Got new belts installed.
New mazdatrix short throw shifter installed. I'll have to try and upload a video showing how bad the original was!
Then get the new seals installed on the brake resevoir, re-install all of that and have a brake pump session with myself.
But yeah. We're getting there!
