I joined this forum back in 2001 when I blew up my engine on my '87 Turbo II after installing an intake, exhaust, and fuel cut defender with no other supporting mods. At the time I was 18 going on 19. It took 14 months, but eventually I got the car back up and running with a high flow fuel pump and some gauges to better help keep it in the safety zone. I drove the car through the rest of college until shortly after I graduated. I sold the car in 2004 to help pay for something a bit more practical. I've missed the car ever since, and hated that I had neither the garage space nor the money to keep the car and at the time my parents weren't able to help me either. Since that time I've always owned cars that were at least some-what sporty, but nothing was like my first RX-7. The cars I've owned since have been:
2002 Subaru WRX (blew the motor in this car too even though it was bone-stock)
2007 Civic Si
2009 Nissan GT-R (still own)
2017 Ford Focus RS
2019 Audi RS3 (still own)
Seventeen years later with a wife, kids, house, and two car garage, I decided now was the time to get another FC as I saw the prices of Turbo II's start to rapidly increase. I scoured FB Marketplace, Bring-A-Trailer, all the car buying sites. Finally I landed upon an absolute survivor. A 1988 Turbo II, stock, clean, and running with quite a few miles on the clock: 144,500. It technically has had three owners, but that's because a father and son passed it back and forth. I bought the car from the father, the original owner. Most importantly, it was the right color: black. My father, out of the kindness of his heart as I was too busy to travel myself, drove to Ohio to see the car and complete the transaction on my behalf. I had it shipped back to the greater Boston area where I live and just got it on the road this week. There are some minor mechanical challenges to work through first and that's probably all that I'll get to this year. With the mileage being so high, and the car being down on power from what I remember I'm sure an engine rebuild is in the near future for this car. At that time I'll probably mildly modify the car, but the goal isn't big power. I have other cars for that. The goal is to see if scratching this nostalgic itch can bring a little joy to my garage. Anyway, I'm looking forward to interacting with you all again!
This was my first FC. If it looks funny it's because there's no engine in it and there's a few hundred pounds of parts in the back. This is the car that I brought over from Ohio this year.
Awesome car! And awesome line up of cars you've had (and still own). Digging those wheels on the new one you bought.
Thanks! The wheels are *almost* exactly what I wanted. I'm hoping to source some BBS RS 17" wheels at some point. Aesthetically I'm hoping to have it look like a Savanna RX-7 with a touch of modern flair (larger wheels and tires).
Welcome back to the forum and congratulations 9n your new 88 TII!! The car appears to have been well cared for and maintained! Would love to see more pictures of the car!!
Very nice Turbo II! I still miss my FC's and have the nostalgic itch as well, I moved on to FD's years ago and while they are awesome, they are significantly different. Interesting that you have the GTR, I'm assuming its the fast car!

Yes the GT-R is the fast car with about 480hp and 480ftlbs at the wheels. That's just exhaust and a tune and there are plenty more powerful (read: WAY more powerful) GT-Rs out there. For myself, it's plenty fast for the roads I have access to here in MA. You can be at take me to jail speed by the end of any entrance ramp.
The RS3 is no slouch though at around 400hp and 370ftlbs at the wheels on a stage 1 tune. At 300lbs less than the GT-R its very close in straight-line performance. It's capable of 500 at the wheels with full bolt-ons on 93 octane.
Not that anyone here probably cares, but I do really love my wife's 2018 Sienna too!
