stereo prob....

ok, cd deck comes on, subwoofer gets signal and bumps, but all my other components just dont do anything. if i wiggle the cd deck around every now and then all the speakers will work perfectly then go out again real quick. usually all i will hear is a weird static out of the rear left speaker, and ofcourse the bass from the sub. i know the cd player is in perfect working order 'cause i put it in my other car and it worked pristine. i've had it in my rex before without this problem. am i shorting out somewhere? anyone have any ideas? thanks!

loose connections probably. Take your deck out and sodder or buy proper connectors for your speakers.

Do you have dedicated grounds that run back to the battery, or are you grounding to the chassis?

using a digital multimeter, set on continuity check and pull the radio out. (typically the most common problem with running new speaker leads would be shorting or pinching them when running them to the appropriate speakers) unplug your radio and with one test lead grounded you can probe the speaker leads in the radio harness and the meter will tell you if a speaker wire is shorted. most aftermarket radios have a protection circuit which will cut out all sound if the leads are shorted. this response is from an MECP car installation bay...this is the most common problem we see in cars with no sound.
the speaker leads could also be shorted by how the speaker was mounted. with the left rear speaker popping when the stereo first powered up leads us to believe the problem lies in either the left rear speaker or thewires running to it...

happy thumping/ motoring

Make shure your RCA cabels and ground are running on one side of the car. The power wire running on the opposite. If th wires cross or even touch it could casue a annoying buzzing described.

At least it's a stereo problem now and not a carb issue, lol.

lol true nate!

pnoy1duh; thanks for the insight, i'll check that. another wierd thing is now that i'm using it with only the front speakers (LOL) if i hit a bump and i mean barely a bump sometimes everything cuts out and all i hear is the sub again. so i just kinda poke the deck and it works again. sounds like a loose connection but definitely everything is good in that area. i'm gonna go get my multimeter from a friend in a little bit. he better still have it! AHHHHHH

I don't mean to hijack your thread, but I have similar problem and was going to make a thread for it, but I might as well ask in here so I don't clutter up the board.

My 91 has an Aiwa CD stereo with a 500w Kenwood amp. The power cable and the RCA for the amp are run on opposite sides of the car. The ground lead is connected to the chassis in the back of the hatch. The amp powers 6 1/2" speakers and a boxed sub. The head unit is hooked up to some 4" dash speakers.

I've had it hooked up for months with no problems. Only thing I've done recently was I put in a new antenna on it. But starting last Sunday, it randomly cuts off on me for a second. The entire system, all speakers, the amp, and the stereo, then it will come back on. There is also a popping sound coming from the rear, I can't tell if it's the speakers or the amp itself. It seems to do it when the rear hits a bump, or sometimes when I am flooring the car. Oddly enough, it seems to do it more when I have a passenger, but that may be pure chance.

I've checked all the cables, unplugged and replugged them, and also ran new wires for the speakers. It went away for a few days, and then came back on me today. I'm out of ideas now. Anyone have any more for me?

you need to by pass the anetnna cabel with the head unit becasuse it won't work. bring your car to an audio shop and have them tesp everything out it will onyl cost 15 -20 $ they will check the amp and subs. i hade this prob in my old car. turned out to be my amp. it overheating and something else but it was replace by the manufacture for free. but take it to an audio shop and they will shurely fix it. let me know how it works out. hopes this helps.
