Exclamation need recommendation on racing seats

i'm debating on getting my seats reupholstered for my 2nd gen. the shop wants to charge me $250 a seat in the material i want. i found out that it will almost cost the same to just buy racing seats, like corbeaus that are running around $350. do you guys have any recommendations on which seats are good and will fit in perfect? are there any shops that has deals on them? any help would be appreciated.

Corbeaus are good and cost less than most bigger names (sparco, momo, recarro) but I have no idea on fitment.
I like the Corbeau Carreras

I've had the Corbeau Forza since August and like it a lot. However the Carrera's are the **** if you have the cash.

You might want to sit in a few before ordering anything. I don't remember the brand name but it was an $850 carbon fiber seat and was just awesone to look at but it was liking sitting in a straight back chair. It was very uncomfortable but extremely supportive. Not a good daily driver seat but possible a good racecar seat. Personally I use a Kirkey aluminum(www.kirkeyracing.com) in my racecar. You can order the seat sections in different widths to fit your but and they have many models to choose from. Not a good seat for a daily driver though.

Check out http://www.alamomotorsports.com/corbeau.htm . I think this seat is a good buy:

It's the Targa RS.

The Corbeau GTS II seat is practically the 'turbo 2 seat' out of an 87. you gotta buy rails also with each seat so that adds like 100 bux

I got my Forza manufacturer direct from a friend who distributes them here in Ontario. The seat cost me 399 CA and the rails were 120 CA. So the whole deal was around 600 dollar canadian with tax.

I should mention that I found the seat pretty uncomfortable for the first week. I didn't think I was gonna like it for daily driving.

BUT after a month, I absolutely loved it. Now I think it's the best seat I've ever sat in, it is SO comfortable once you get used to it. Now when I get into a car with regular seats it feels terrible, so unsupportive.

I'm just saying that even though you may not like it at first, IMO they are very comfortable after you get used to them.

I got a pair of Sparco Rev's in my TII...they are great....need to custom make brackets to mount...but your stock seat tracks will bolt to the sparco's ..you just have to elongate the mounting holes on the trtack to body oh you also have to install spacers between the seat and the oem track..... i did not go this route because the stock seat tracks are so damn heavy it defeats the purpose of installing liteweight seats.....i will post pics on my custom brackets soon...
on my 3rd gen seeing it is a daily driver i installed a Sparco Roadster...very comfortable for daily use and in and out use...you can also mount with oem tracks with similar mods ..i have not mounted seat yet thou i lent my Tig out and you know how that goes.......

I've owned a set of MOMO T-Frame and MOMO NASCAR seats. Both were fantastic. A seat will generally not come with rails. I found both sets used, and very reasonably priced on one of the Porsche boards. Sometimes those rich bastards practically give stuff away.

I sat in some Sparcos at Hot Import Nights, and I loved them. I didn't like the feel of the Corbeau seats though. I don't know. Its all personal feel,I mean, Im built different to you, so they work better for me.

Very good point. I think Sparco's are the bomb if you want to deal out the cash. For my FB I wasn't really looking for the flashiest most expensive seat possible, just something decent to replace my broken stock seat lol. And since my friend offered me a good deal... Once I get out of college and start making some money, you may well find me sitting in an FD with a set of Sparco's

I have a Sparco Pheonix seat in my TII and I love it. I have had it for over three years now, and it is holding up great. I actually delivered pizza in the seat in my previous NA RX7, if you can believe it.

here is a link to a site that I have where I show me installing the seat and harness in the car.
Race Seat Install

hope this helps some

Hey nice article OPEC!

One of the nice things about Corbeau is they have a bracket/slider kit for every application you could ever imagine. Mine fit perfectly, totally replaced the stock system, and was very easy to install.

Thanks, I have meant to do more with the site, but just haven't had the time lately.

That is cool that your Corbeau's came with all of that stuff, I can definetly attest to the fact that that would make it a lot easier to install. I just have a thing for the Sparco seats, that is why I got mine. I have taken many long 12+ hour car trips in the seat and I actually feel better driving in that seat that in the stock ones, (my lower back never started hurting or anything) they are very supportive. I would estimate the total cost for all the brackets, seat, hardware, and belts, cost about $600 or so when it was all said and done.

Hey Opec, what mods are done to your car to get 242 rwhp? Reason I ask is I have an '87 turbo 2 motor in my '85 and stock turbo at 13-13.5 psi netted me 272rwhp on the second run which should be 5-10 higher on the first due to being a little cooler on the first run. Mods are front mount cooler, 3 inch custom turbo back exhaust with no catties, fuel pressure reg, fuel pump, bumped up fuel pressure to 45 psi

Yes, it is a good idea to try out the seats before you buy them. Everybody is different.

Just to clear up any possible confusion, there is a difference between "racing" seats and "sport" seats. Racing seats are designed for high-speed impact, and therefore do not recline. Sport seats look like racing seats, but offer a reclining feature which adds to adjustability, and possibly better comfort, but does not protect your spine as well in a high-speed impact. Both types of seats have their uses.

The lowest-priced FIA-approved racing seat that I know of is the fiberglass Momo Rookie. I have one in my 1Gen, and I like it better than the stock 2Gen seats, but it is not quite as nice as the more expensive Momo 1000 Lakes seats in my 20B car. A quick search on the net will show several vendors who offer the Momo Rookie for under $300.

Sorry this isn't on topic with the thread
it is a stock 90 TII motor, with about 5000 miles since rebuild with fresh rotor housing. as far as mods here is the list

power mods
hks front mount
3" full exhaust to an apex N1
manual boost controller set to about 13lbs on stock turbo
walbro fuel pump
4 720cc fuel injectors
Super AFC
MazdaComp racing radiator
FJO wideband

I believe that is it for the power mods, I may be forgetting something though. I feel like it should be making more power as the ambient temp when I dyno'ed the car was 103F and it was on the 3rd run that i made the best pass, so i am sure by that time it was quite heat soaked by then. I had been taking away fuel all three runs, cause it was originally tuned in much cooler weather, but i just didn't take away enough as the whole time I was under boost the car never moved from 10 lambda, so I know that it was running very rich. I am sure that if I had it tuned to about 11.2 ( which it is now) or so and it was cooler outside, I am positve that i would have made more power.
