My iPod nano dock in the FC (write up)

Materials: iPod Nano dock adapter; wood, plastic, or fiberglass; Dremmel; Drill and bits; auxillary cable; headunit that has aux ports; and a saw of some sort (jig-saw).

1. Pop out the center console peice that contains the security light, window controls, and coin tray. Cut out the coin tray in the center console using a Dremmel or something similar. I used a box cutter only because I dont have a Dremmel.

2. Find the dock adapter that your Nano came with. Cut out a peice of wood or plastic, ext... that will fit around the adapter so that it fills the hole you just cut. (It is very tight to get it the right size, but just take measurements and keep checking it) Then you can glue these two together, making sure you have it in position to fit the hole. There are some studs on the adapter that have to be cut off.

3. Figure out where your headphone port sits in the adapter when your iPod is in it. Then drill out the adapter to acomodate a auxillary cable coming into the headphone jack. Paint the assembly now to match your dash.

4. Next run you auxillary cable to you headunit. Run it were you want to keep it at this point. Pull out some slack on the cable for the rest of the assembly

5. Glue the aux cable into the bottom of the adapter. Before you glue it make sure your iPod makes a connection while in the dock. There will be some shaving of the cable to make it fit. Make sure the glue is strong here because it is crucial to your success.

6. Now you can glue the whole asembly into the peice of the console. I used Krazy glue (super glue), also maybe hot glue or silicone caulk. And then snap it back into place.

7. Thats it, just pop it back in to place and plugg and play!

* The switch in my console next to the security light turns off the fuel pump. Im to broke to get it rebuilt, so I had that put in so I can start it when it floods. Just figured some one would ask about that.

umm... it may just be me, but i think that is one heck of a bad spot for that switch what if you knock it off or a passenger flips it? car shuts dowm ON THE HIGHWAY. game over. i have one thats hidden, so it also works as an anti theft device. just somethin to think about

I have little insert there with no switches/mirrors/security and all of that, just the tray. Its the exact same width as my 20gig ipod already!

You would have to get this >>Nyko Stereo Link™ for iPod® (88020)

Then you would have to modify a regular dock to acomodate that plug. The only thing with that is you have to disable the safety latch, because you cant take it out with out releasing the safety. Unless with the regular dock it plugs into the dock and you could just leave it pluged in.

Only thing is... I dont think the regular dock would fit where I have the nano. But if you dont have the security light and adjustable mirrors just put it in the middle.

i would suggest putting a brace in back of it to lay on, i can just picture you or a passenger bumping it and breaking either the center console or the ipod.

you should have just made a holder like beside your steering column or something. i can tell that you were goin for the whole dock thing but it doesnt look safe for the ipod. I have a white 4g nano to and will be doing somethin in my FD for it once i get my new reciever.
