Yep. Like the scoop on the hood of the viper GTS, near the front and in the center.

And this entire thing will be CF?
Do they mount to the hatch to lift with the hatch too, like on other cars?

I have a pic I will scan in if you want me to, but you obviously know what it is. Your description was perfect.

That is a NACA duct. It is incredible efficient, and does not increase by sticking up. It is fully recessed. If you want more info on it, do a search on one of the search engines on the web.

CYM, Ill have a price on the underpan in a day or two. My dad threw away my extra one, so Ill have to take the one off my FC to get the measurements and work up a price.

NACA was the precurser to NASA. The NACA duct is the most efficient way to move air into a duct from a smooth surface with good laminar flow properties with the least amount of turbulence behind it.

Mazdaspeed7, the checks in the mail.

there inst a difference between the s4 and s5 cargo covers is there ? and a aluminum 1 peice intake pipe from the tb to the mass would be great just make sure you add the 2 nipples for the vac hoses like the stock tube . i want the center console peice to0 , do i need to send you my center console peice , i want a few cut outs in it for some of my oem switches , when thats completed you can ship it with a cooling panel also , and i'll pay for the center console peice , cooling panel , and the deposit on the cargo cover . thats package #1 for me
package #2 will be the steroo/shifter surround , aluminum intake pipe , and the clock surround if you make that .
i just thought of another idea ....what about a CF cold air box !!!! just like the mariah one . damn if you can deliver the goods , we are gonna make you rich !

You have a Series 5 (89-91). The surround is made of rubber instead of plastic, the vents are different, the way it is shaped is different, where the radio goes is slightly different.

Node, all Logicons are the same bro. The heating and AC controls are the same

Hey Mazdaspeed7...

I will be buying one of your lexan/cf hatches soon... I am tryin to find someone in the Northeast that could go in on it with me to split shipping... Just throw both in the same box. Any takers???
I would be gettin the one with no hinges, latches or struts... Just hoodpins to hold it down... $350 is not bad to save 50 lbs!

For the center console panel... If i get the flat style one... It has all the mounts for the vents and the logicon? Then flat where the radio used to be? What about the ashtray... I dont smoke so i dont need it . And i might be gettin that little console panel also to go with it... Could i still cut the console to fit a cd player??? If not I will improvise... My roll cage already knocked out all my speaker locations!

I will be gettin a cooling panel also soon... How much for all 4 peices at once?

eh The rear Hatch with lexan window
sounds cool

But would it be cheaper to make it out of reguler fiberglass instead of CF? (I know the material cost would be less)
A CF hood would be nice just for looks but a CF Hatch is overkill

This cool cause if your going to the track just switch out the stock hatch
for the Ultra-Lite* <---- registered trade mark..LoL

I was looking at some fiberglass/cf stuff, and I got an idea how to make the hatch stronger and lighter. Using a foam core, you make a part 40-50% stronger, but only 3-5% heavier. I am going to to that for the frame for the lexan, and one or 2 reinforcement bars down the flat main part. This will allow me to use even thinner lexan, and it will be less flexible due to the bracing, and will be very light. I might be able to pull off a 20 lb hatch like that.

On the radio surround, the only thing that mounts to the surround itself is the vents and the ashtray/cig lighter. You could easily cut a hole for the radio and/or any guages/turbo timers, etc. Thats the point in it having a flat front.

Ill get back to you on the package price. If you want it close, add everything up, minus 15%. Then the shipping comes after that.

If anybody is wondering, fiberglass is not much less expensive than cf. Most of the cost is in the work, not the materials.

mazdaspeed do you think you could make a simple graphic of what the flat cf piece would look like compared to stock? are you also making the shift surround? thanks.

Youre going to have to visualize this. The cutout for the vent/logicon will be there, but everything below that will be a flat, solid panel, including the curved transition where the ashtray/cig lighter is.

if it is flat like you said wont that leave a gap between the shift surround and stereo surround by the ashtray where it curves out a little and meets the shift surround??
or will it just stick out more than the stouck surround to meet it?

It will follow the curve exactly like stock, but there will be no cutouts below the logicon/vents.

Seth, $200 for the underpan sound alright? Its a little bigger than I thought, but shouldnt pose a problem.

I got the S4 surround in today, Ill be starting the mold this week. I need some input from the people who want the stock copies. The ashtray mounts are complicated, and very hard for me to mold. I could not guaruntee a perfect fit if I did put them on there. Mow many of you that will be ordering the exact copy of stock would mind if I deleted the ashtray all together?
