thanks for the info. i opted agianst the kirkey seat due to the fact that they are so hard to get in and out of and my car isnt a dedicated track car.

anyone try the racetech seats? i like the RTroadw. looks very similar to the sparco roadster as well as dimensions. have done 2 trackdays so far with the stock seats with the "foamectomy" done to the drivers seat wich works well but would like to update the enterior and get a little more support and feel. im have a 38" waist so trying to find seats that are ok for longer drives and good for the track and that fit me. i see the profi and spg fit (recaro) but not sure if i wanna SQUEEZE into a seat.

Those look similar to the Sparco EVO's (and Roadster as you mentioned), so you can likely compare the dimensions to see how they'll fit. I would say you'll probably be better off looking at something like a Corbeau A4 if you drive it a lot on the street. Some people don't get along with fixed back seats for a long time, especially the inexpensive ones. The higher priced ones are more comfortable, but you pay for it.

also found the "large and in charge" seat thread for bigger guys, good stuff. i see the Recaro Pole position is on the list of will fit but with HEAVY modification? searched and could not even find pics of enyone who put them in there fd. Anyone have any info on the mod? i know the pole position has a narrower wing area so it shouldnt hit the door panel but has a larger BOOTY area. I have another track day coming up on the 9th and a local guy selling a pole position.

LMK guys thanks!

A member just recently posted some custom upholstered pole positions that he made work with stock rails:

Where did you get the fd custom seat rail, from Corbeau or just custom fabbed oem seat rails?

Has anyone out here ever installed a 6 point harness using the Spirit R recaros?

how did you go about with the 5th and 6th point? did you cut a small hole in the bottom with a grommet of some sort?

i just bought a harness and was about to cut a 1"x3" hole in the bottom of my recaros but before i do, i want to hear your opinions. i like to sit as low as possible so im not using a cushion, although i might get the cushion redone for a hole in it to allow the belt the pass through.

any thoughts?

I'm sure they do! Give then a holler.

The current plan is to start slowly working on the car again starting next week so I will have some install pics soon.

Cobra Suzuka Pro GT (GT is the larger version). I am 6'4" with a tall/lean build and big hips/legs. I have yet to find another seat that I can fit in comfortably that also fits in the FD (including the Recaro SPG XL). This is mounted on Atomic Rex rails (thanks J-AUTO) and is probably about as low and far back as you can mount a seat. With the seat and Nardi 330mm together, I have incredible legroom for the first time since owning this car - it's almost like driving an open-wheel car with my feet straight forward. The seat and harness made a HUGE difference regarding the responsiveness of the car and my ability to drive it too!

^^ Good looking seats! Are they barely touching the door trim or pushing enough to leave a dent? Would you say the non-GT version would clear the door trim? I couldn't see the dimensions of the GT version in Cobra website to tell if there is a difference in upper part of the seat compared to the non-GT version.

It's leaving a dent and I have to close my door pretty hard. It's not great in that regard but the seat is sooooooooo nice!

The whole seat is wider - shoulders and base, by maybe 30mm

I have a Sparco Evo 2 Plus seat that I scored for a great deal. I got it before my FD and from the reading on here it sounds like it wont fit without modifying the left shoulder bolster correct? I love this seat so I may be willing to pull the cover and grind out some material.

The regular Sparco EVO rubs and needs some trimming so I would be certain the Evo 2 would as well. From the dimensions I can find, the EVO 2 Plus seats are the same or slightly wider at the bolsters so trimming is needed. Without trimming, the bolsters pinch the door panels, so I recommend trimming away. It's not that difficult. Now the regular EVO 2's are slightly smaller than the EVOs at the bolsters but regardless, they would need trimming as well to not rub.

Remover the cover, pull back the foam, and use a dremel to trim until the seats fit. I saw where another guy wrapped the seats in Saran Wrap to protect from getting dust all over them and I'd highly recommend doing that as vacuuming the dust debris out of the fabric is a pain.

The key to the seats though is getting them to sit low enough for you to use comfortably. Contrary to what you might hear, the Sparcos actually sit higher than the stock seats, even when you use rails like the side mount Brides. You can remove the bottom seat cushion though to lower your height. This works fine for the track but I wouldn't want to drive long distances that way. So, the second mod you need to do is to trim the back bottom left and right of the seat to allow it to drop "into" the rails. In this way, you can get the seat back position to recline enough to allow you to sit lower than the stock seats.

Hope this helps.

Thank you David for your help! It sounds like I would be better off just selling this seat and getting something else that fits without trimming. Thanks again for your help, I will save this thread to use when I start looking for another seat!

Any kind of racing you need a 6 point harness for those seats won't cut it.
If its just for show then well... Just get a 4 point.

Where did he (or she) say they were racing?

However to p00shy even though your post is older, those seats are not designed for 5/6 point harnesses. Don't do it as it won't be safe. If you need or desire 5/6 point harness, get proper seats for the harness. The Spirit R seats are designed for OEM seat belts.
