Does anyone know if the rx7 fc seats will fit/ are capable of being put into the FD? The FD seat sits to high for me, and I don't fit as well into the car as I did in my FC. I remember the FC seats sitting way lower than the FD seats. I am 6 foot 2 and have a kind of wide butt! lol So I am not sure how well I would fit into a racing seat. I saw some listed in here that might work for me, but I want to keep some comfort to the car as this is not a track car. So if an FC seat will fit I am hoping that will sit lower in the FD than the FD seats do. I would be open to other suggestions to for seat choices.

In for updates, the one guy that I found that was running them did have to cut the interior plastics a bit to fit at the back of the seat.

Quote from him: "I only had to cut that trim, I used seat brackets by corbeau as well. The seats seem to fit good in the position I need them, Otherwise they are too tall and will hit the headliner If it's a shorter driver. If I could go back I would save up a little more for some recaros though "

^ See posts #262 and 263 in this thread. I posted up pics of the seats without trimming (yes, they hit the doors fairly hard) and then, with the trimming I did to fix the problem. It's pretty easy to do the trimming and took me about an hour or so.

In addition to the outer, upper bolster area, I had to trim the inside left of the passenger seat to get everything to fit well.

Love the seats BTW. Extremely comfortable.

Smile RO or LR rails for Bride GIAS, CUGA or STRADIA ?

Hello rotary freinds,

I am about to get me a pair of one of those seats, Bride GIAS, CUGA or STRADIA and I can see some of the models can use boath RO and LR seatrails and I know the LR seat rail will lower the seat position, but I am not a tall driver (170 cm) but I do race the car with helmet on so I would like to know what you guys think will be the best rail for me ? thank's in advance.

IMO, get the ones (LR) that lower the position as much as possible. You can always adjust your seat higher but not lower without the low rails.

I am taller than you (183 cm) and have a Sparco EVO seat on LR Bride rails. I had to modify my seats to drop low enough into the LR rails and then take the bottom pad out of the seat to comfortably fit in the car with a helmet on.

So you should be just fine with the LR rails.

Hello David,

Perfect 😊 thanks a lot for your reply, I have also considered to get a pair of the Mazdaspeed type-F seats with the rails but these seats seems pretty hard to find 😎

I run the BRIDE Stradia II recliners in my car and they fit perfectly. I'm 5'10 with a 34-inch waist and they are snug, but comfortable, and I DO like the lower seat position. However, I was surprised to find that the BRIDE recliners (with seat rails attached) were actually heavier than my stock R1 suede seats, again with the OEM rails attached. So, if you're obsessed with reducing weight, adding BRIDE seats to your car will not lighten things. Just something to be aware of!

^ If you want to reduce weight, then you can run a full bucket seat, like the Sparco Evos, with the Bride FR rails. That combination is lighter than the stock (leather) seats and rails.

I'd guess the full adjustment systems in the Bride Stradia recliners RCCAZ describes above include lots of metal framing components and that is what makes them heavier.

I'm kind of at a dilemma now with the sunroof rx7 I just bought. I'm only 5'11 / 220 pounds and my head hits the ceiling with the stock seats I do sit back far, but I don't like to recline much at all. My legs also are really close to the steering wheel.

So now I need to find aftermarket seats or attempt to lower mine. I took it all apart tonight. I really don't think you can get much lower than factory. The fiberglass section underneath is only 1/4" above the carpet. If I sit directly on this shell I'm fine.

Here is a side profile of the bottom cushion.

I did mock it up with a marker of what I may try to cut out. I decided I better wait and think about it more before trying it. If I cut too much the bottom sides will become more like bolsters and may hurt. If I don't leave enough foam around the wires running through the foam I'll feel them. And if I alter the seat too much the leather will look like crap when it's re-applied.

Some other measurements that may help others. I couldn't fit in this. The side bolsters prevented my butt from reaching the bottom.

And here is a good side profile pic to show how low it already goes compared the center console. A lot of the aftermarket seats I've seen pictures of online appear to be even higher.

The is the rear part of the slider. There is a 1/16" reinforcement piece of steel welded underneath the ear that bolts onto the car. I could remove this and gain a tiny bit of room. I could modify the car floor where it bolts to as well but only gain a maximum of 1/4" as that is about as much space between the bottom fiberglass pan and the top of the carpet.

So I think my options are

1. Try to modify my seats. Worst case they look like crap and I end up tossing them.

2. Try to find something aftermarket. I'm not against fixed seats but I don't want it to rub the door, or console, and it must be comfy. It sucks living up in VT. It's not like I can go anywhere close to try out different seats.

3. Sell my car and try to find an R1. Looking at my headliner I think that would only give me about 3/4" max. That may be enough. But I just paid $900 to have this car shipped to me. I figured I would have been fine with a sunroof as the previous owner was over 6'.

4. Look into cutting my roof off and putting a non sunroof one on. I know plenty of people have done this in the 3000gt world but I couldn't find a whole lot of documentation on it for rx7s. This would be expensive as well. I've got about $6200 invested right now.

^That's some good info with the measurements, thanks for posting that!

I'm 6'3" and about 215-220 and I checked out the Cobra Suzuka Pro GT. Well, I sat in the Sebring model but it's only 5mm wider in the seat and I had plenty of room still. But it seems like the Suzuka fits pretty well. That's the one I'm getting.

Could you confirm that our GT wing width is 23.5" as listed by Cobra? It looks like the non-GT version would only be 22.5". Do you think that 1/2" different on the driver's side would be enough for it to not hit the door?

I'm considering their Imola seat, and would re-use my Atomic Rex mounts, but would prefer it to not touch the door without modification. Otherwise I'll just go back to aluminum seats again since I know they fit and are light. I was just hoping to find a composite that would be a bit more comfy on the street.

I bet the wings could be clipped as well, especially with the seats with a full fiberglass/carbon back. Remove the cloth from the top, and cut/dremel the wings more narrow. Then you could un-stitch the fabric and sew it tighter. That Suzuka pro gt seat Speedjunkie posted looks really nice. I'd probably need to find black carpet though to match, or try redoing the covers with tan leather.

I don't want to touch the kevlar shell on a FIA rated seat at all. I could handle shaving some foam, but I also can't guarantee how much is really on the outside of that wing.

I studied the foam a little more last night. I don't think I am going to cut into it as I can feel the sides of the seat against my legs already. If I cut out more from the center the sides would just dig in more. I could cut the fiberglass sides down an equal amount but the top is lipped and I know removing the top lip would remove a structural part of the seat.

I think instead I will look at modifying the floor. If I can drop the front down an inch it would give me moor room between the steering wheel and should pivot the back of the seat up a tad. Then maybe the rear can be dropped down 1/4" or so. I know it does not sound like a lot, but anything helps.

Here's a better pic as well to show how the sides compare to the center.

What are the best seats or mounts to lower the seat for the track? An integrated rail like the bride fg and a low max seat or something similar?

Adam Griffith makes rails that bolt right to the floor, that's what I'll be using.

I just got my interior back in after a few years and I didn't realize my head was so close to the liner, I do have a sunroof. How tall are you junkie? I'm 6'1 and definitely need some space if I plan on tracking at all.
