installing my cd player
hey guys
im installing my jvc head unit today, anything i should know before i do this? i have an 86 n/a with the radio and tape deck. i was actually considering just taking out the radio part and keeping the tape deck and the small pocket underneath. has anyone tried this or have any advice for me? thanks

Good luck on your install first off. When I installed my Sony deck into my car I guess one of the first things that struck me was probably to get a new amp. There's an amp behind the passenger kick panel and it's pretty weak. It's really up to you whether or not you want to keep it, but being a stereo buff, I changed it. In any case, it's pretty simple to install and the most difficult part is to make it look flush. Again good luck!
Peace,

Each speaker has its own amp, except for the front driverside one. Your best bet is to disconnect the amps , and use the existing speaker wire to hook up to your deck. You won't beable to use the amps anyway, and your deck will give off more power. Get an installation kit from visions, its by metra and cost 25 bucks, i also picked up the wiring harness to from there. Here's a pic of my install: (link)

Not necessarily. As you crank it up, you'll start to hear distortion when you're giving it too much - and that's your cue to scale back a bit on the volume.
You definitely want to bypass/remove the old amps, and run right from the deck. When you have some extra cash buy some new speakers.

I got the installation kit from Visions (canada) its like a big chain of audio suppliers. The kit brand was called Metra, and was it the model designed for Rx-7's . There are instructions with the kit which tells you how to set it up. Also i bought a wiring harness from the same place, which makes it really easy to hook up the deck.
Good luck.

I got the stuff I needed from Wal-Mart. I couldn't see any way to hook new stuff through the factory stuff cause it all has its own special connectors. So I just hooked up a wiring harness and ran new wires to each speaker. Works fine and haven't blown any.
