i dont need to pay some one to do a proper paint job, i rather learn how to do it myself. takes more skill to get the rattle can to look good then it does to get the other stuff to look good.
if youve never used an hvlp or any kind of pnuematic spray gun dont state that it takes more skill to get the rattle can to look good. because ive used both and it takes more skill just to set up a gun than it does to shake a can and spray an entire car.

ok i am sorry, it takes different skills to get the paint to fall the right way on the car. its easier to get it to look like crap with rattle can.

I've known her for a while.. She does all her own work. Definitely knows more about cars than I do...

I think you forum bashers should put your money where your mouth is and try doing what she does!

Hah, it's faded in that picture because I grew tired of using Armorall pad wipes every weekend on it. Would I need to sand it down? Because I actually like the texture our stock FD lips have. Also, I didn't think you could rattle-can plastic without it not "grabbing" the surface right and eventually cracking.

use clear adhesion promoter, duplicolor brand(like a primer but its clear). you'd have to sand it a lil bit with one of those maroon scotch brite looking pads. and use windex or simple green to remove wax or any remaining armorall. since they contain amonia. u can use duplicolor vynil paint, you can use the wheel colors since they have high adhesive in them too and are ment for plastic and other wheel materials. you'd only need one can of adhesion promoter. one can of color. and one can of clear if your really dareing. its really easy for that thin strip right there. its when you get to large areas that it gets to be dificult. go to duplicolor.com and check out what they got, they even have diy videos on there!

You might want to try Mother's Back to Black first. I haven't tried it because I don't have anything faded, but it looks like that might be your best bet. It's like $5 at Advance Auto or Wal-Mart.

I just spent 30 minutes on www.duplicolor.com and I've decided to go this route:
Adhesion Promoter > Bumper Coating FB 105 Black

Plus it's another chance for me to use my 86.9% discount at NAPA

I'm also going to buy the Trim Paint to touch up faded weather stripping.

Oh and did you notice, there's an FD on that site, the Efini badge caught my eye.

I have heard nothing but good things about Mother's products, but I read up on the Back-to-Black dressing and it says reapply regularly, I'm looking for more of a do it once every year approach. That stuff might make it look even better after I'm done painting it. I'll give it a try.

No, what's really sad about this is that people are complimenting her on her work simply because she is a girl.

Who does a paint job but doesn't take the time to apply some filler to the dents?

If she were a male, you'd be instantly pointing out the ricer red double wiper blades.

Or the sleepy-eye, looks-broken headlights.

Or the definitely-broken front turn signals.

Or the illegally missing side marker lights.

Or the broken front lip.

This is ignored because she is female? Pathetic.

If painting a car was this easy and cheap, why would anyone spend $2000 on the paint alone? Why would anyone spend $3000 on the labour to do it? Why would the factory go to such extensive and expensive lengths to electro-coat the bare metal, and the CNC robotic arms for top coating? If a pressurized rattle can did such a good job, why would any paint shop spend thousands on HVLP guns, air compressors, air dryers, etc?
Stop kidding yourself.

Let's see how the car looks in 6 months. Forgive me for not being impressed by your cheap, half-assed job.

well, i got to say that I am more impressed with the fact that she is a girl and does this type of work.

Now, for the quality of her work.
In all honestly, when i first saw that purple fc, i was about to puke but now looks much better . and the lights that she custom made, and the painted vert hood looks great.

Any girl that grabs a wrench and actually works on her own car , deserves my respect. no matter if it is the nicest or ricest car in the world.

that stuff is ignored because this is a thread about how she painted her car with a rattle can and it looks decent. not her lights.

your pathetic man, people comment on everyones work on this forum, it why people post it up. It doesn't matter if its a guy or a girl

if you were gonna spend $60 on a paint job would you take the time to make the body perfect? probably not because its not a huge deal. even though she did say that was the original reason she started the work.

That being said, I did paint my engine bay with rattle cans and found it looked awesome but was a little to thin and not so durable. I sanded it all back down got a spray gun and did the job "properly" because it wont be so easy to do once everything is back in.

there is no difference between REAL paint and the paint you can put threw a paint gun. it is real paint. i dont think they'd sell FAKE paint. its just a different type of paint that is in the rattle can. its not a paint you mix then spray. its a lacquer. and you can spray cars with lacquer.

man i can never make a post about my work with out ********* bashing.

I think you did a good job for spray paint, Just a bunch of noobie ****** 7 haters who just have nothing better to do than critisize you. Neways I was stationed in san. antonio, I was at lackland AFB. and no im not in the Airforce. Navy. Texas is a weird *** state. Its like its own country, hehe. But i miss being there. The riverwalk was pretty cool. neways ttyl.

P.S I used to be a painter. I painted for 4 years before I joined the military. I painted some high profile stuff, Stuff worth up to the millions especially stuff for the government, military, nasa, commercial, Power plants stuff like that, and stuff for other countries including there military. I would always play around with the spray paint that I had lieing around in my Paint shop when I was bored. and I started to learn how to do Graphics, Graffiti how however you spell it. I painted so much **** for peoples cars too. Some with spray paint also. looked damn good. It all started with getting bored and being curious, and also TRIAL AND ERROR. Im not that good at it now cause Its been over a year since I've done anything, But Once I get my own little space that I can destory, Ill start to pick up the talent again.

For what it's worth, I don't see anything wrong with your post all, I actually really enjoyed it. Thanks for posting.

Very interesting to see what you can do with a can of spray paint on a budget. Goes to show that with some effort it can look pretty damn good. I say always put a clear coat on though, it makes it look so much better and protects the paint from fading.

And I don't really see the problem with painting your car with spray paint, when it's clearly not worth spending 3k on that car for a professional to paint it. And like you said, you are learning something useful. Next step is to try using a spray gun and "real" automotive paint. Soon enough your friends might be paying you to paint their cars

i'm with scathcart on this one.

a job that isn't done properly, is a job not worth doing at all...

i don't care so much it was done with spray paint (as I understand the budget aspect of things) however, make sure the body work is good to go before you paint (if you are going to learn to paint your ride, why not learn to do a little body work also?)
