Guy, I wouldn't be saying anything if I haven't been personally involved in such project. I've also painted bumpers and fenders and I can tell you, the thing looked like crap 2 weeks into it. It was primered, prepped and made a few passes after each time it would set.

All this done with Kragen Duplicolor paint... I guess some people just have luck with Rattle-can paint jobs.

I applaud the effort, and the outcome is surprisingly amazing considering the method used. I completely understand the can-control skills needed to achieve these type of results with spray paint (trust me, I know). However, trying to convince ME of this method is like trying to persuade me to just wipe my *** with old newspaper because it's cheaper. Just MY opinion...

EDIT: Looks great! Just not my cup of tea...

lol what a heaping pile of steaming ********. after reading all 8 pages of this i almost wanna sell my 7s an get a honda.

that said, great job all things considered. far as people hating on it goes, they are likely the same people who could do the same to thier car, an might even like to try it, but are afraid people are gonna rip on em just like they are rippin on rx7girl. "u didnt fix the dents, you are missing side markers.. it looks like ***" etc are all secondary to the fact that, i dont see any overspray, looks like u prepped it well enough when painting it.. your wheels an taillights dont match the way i see it when an if u ever decide to buy a gun an go thru the hassel of doing it right you will have a great deal of practical knowledge an experience regarding areas that get missed, areas that are hard to mask etc etc etc.. and as a result will get a much better finish then you would if u just went ahead an got a gun an sprayed it once an called it done.

oh yeah, an i think im in love a girl who works on 7s.. whod have thought

wow. u guys are mean.

to the dude who says buy a cheap guy from kragen. that really defeats the purpose. if you are going to deal with real paint. whats the point in using a shitty gun thats just going to make the paint run, fisheye or whatever else 20 bucks can get you. also you miscalculated the fact that u need at least a 80 gallon compressor to do a satisfactory paint job.

the words ebay and satisfactory are never allowed to go in the same sentence.

To the OP, props for ingenuity and doing your own work.

Forget all these flamers, they got nothing better to do than pick on people on the internet to feel better about themselves. The paint looks good! It's obviously not paint shop material but it's also not $2k+. I'm planning to try a flat black as well. Cheers.

That was assuming she already had a compressor.

But anyway - 80 gallon compressor? Wow..

You don't need an 80G Compressor to operate one of those guns. It only takes 1-3hp/50-60PSI or so. It is still a cheap alternative to a real paint job and in the process you are learning how to do it the correct way, although you might be using cheap hardware, it is still the correct way.

I guess I fall into that "flamer" section, but whatever. It is a forum, she posted a thread regarding her paint job and we gave her a piece of mind. I don't need to ridicule someone on the internet just to make me feel better about myself, trust me.

It was an opinion, nothing more-nothing less, she (or whoever) can take it however they'd like. Taking offense to constructive criticism (which 90% of the 'haters' were doing) will get you nowhere in life, since it is a part of it..

respect for what she tried doing...

1. With all this practice she should try to buy a cheap gun compressor and paint then see what happens 300$. (80G air comp wtf, ummm no)

2. Theory on flat black- like it or not, on an 05'STI it can look mean and puposeful. On an 87 Mazda not so much, just unfinished ...

3. If this was a dude it would def be alot worse. Props to her tho, and you should hone your skills enough to do body work in the future, make alot more money then delivering pizza.

no. if you have a nice car there is only one correct way.

the words are do it once do it right.

if u use shitty materials u will end up with shitty results, you get what you paid for.

Wink to all the bashers

ya. trust me. i wouldnt be continueing the paint job if it wasnt good enough. its alot of work. alot of effort. and it turns out great.

i dont care what people say. if they saw it in person. they wouldnt be talking bad about it. i love my rx7, and i love to work on it. i love to creat, and i love the feeling when the job is done and the effort of the work shows. i dont care what they can say. i've heard it all. but now i know that they can kiss my sweet rotary ***. because my girl looks awsome with her new paint job.
ya. i'll eventualy get a compressor and a "real" gun . and do "Real" paint jobs. but as of right now. i am perfectly happy where i am. i am getting the colors and effects and finish i want. and it feels smoother then silk!
dupli-color is great paint. it may take a few extra min to lay down the color and clear. but i dont have to clean out a gun or mix up paint. the spray comes out in a flat spray. its adjustible with its angle. and it just works! i admit. using a compressor would be alot quicker, or easier. but i havent been tought yet. i still am looking for some one to teach me. but i dont have the money to waist to learn right now. and like i said. i get the result i want from the paint i have been using.

f*ck bashers. i love my ride. and i have enough people compimenting me on it. it makes me happy. i wouldnt be happier spending my spare time any where else but working on my cars.

Oh really? Let's see some of yoru work. Obviously you said you've "been painting for over 4 years" so you could've at least gotten a cheap hook up on paint and painted your own car. "I wasnt able to afford the Correct paint for my car" . Yeahhh.

Unbelievable!

First...I can't BELIEVE how some of you react. She posted some work that she did on a car that IMHO doesn't look good at all. I have to agree with rynberg, et al. The finish looks dull. I can't tell for sure, but it may be spotty/uneven. Kudos for you for trying, but a car isn't something to do this to. If you're going to paint a car at least get paint MADE for a car.

I had mine professionally painted. Yeah, I paid for it. However, what I did do is paint the engine bay myself. I picked up some paint from http://www.automotivetouchup.com along with some clear coat. Yes, I will be the first to admit that it's not the best job, however, in this case, it's the engine bay and didn't care that much, but guarantee that it looks better than that.

But what gets me is that people...and you...get pissed off when they don't agree with you. THAT is hilarious to me. That's great that you like your job, but don't for one second think that it's good enough to get everyone to agree with your opinion...and after all, these are all ONLY opinions.

Yeah...we're ********...but I guess we like to see these cars treated with a little more care.

just rolled it out of my garage from doing the next fender.
i dont care what ya'll say. the finish is not dull. if ya'll are going off of the first pictures. ya. my coupe is a bad paing job.. read the damn post.

my vert i am actualy treating with care. and spenging alot of time doing. this post is not a bashing thread. do not bash. if you dont like it tough ****. if you saw it in person you would never know the difference.
i do how ever have to redo the hood. it was my first try with clear. and it does need to be re-done to correct some flaws, but hell. trial and error. and god damn it... i got this **** down now.

and no. the rear of the car is NOT panted. yes THAT is dull. because its NOT DONE.
