Angry Help with Infinties

Recently I bought 2 pairs of 4" infinity speakers to replace the factory one's on my 86' RX7, and an Alpine deck. My biggest mistake I think was having the boys down at Circiut City install the system, which now sounds like crap. They went though a big speal about having to run new wire, but eventually bypassed the amps somehow and used the factory wiring.

The speakers start to clip half way up on the volume, and the bass is just horrible sounding like it's coming from an alarm clock. I also tend to hear some buzzing and noises that arn't typical for a particular tune, but that may be attributed to the overall crappiness of the sound quality these speakers put out. All four are in the factory locations, the two under the dash and two have been jammed into the plactic "black box" on top of the strut towers. Now, is there anything that I can do to make my 4's sound any better? Maybe block off the gaping holes in the black box and stuff some insulating/sound dampening material in there? Or would upgrading to a 6 1/2 for the back make a noticable difference?

why use 4" for the back?

I'm running 4" infinitis in front, 6.5" in back, and it sounds great. Stock in mine (85 GSL-SE) was 4"/6.5" so there was no hole modification neccessary though in your case that might be different

point being the 6.5" sounds far better than the 4" especially for bass

Do a 6 1/2 int he back. 4" in the front should be capped to keep the bass outta it, and put some 6 1/2's back there.. And should sound a shitload better... And why couldnt I find customers like some of the guys on here, seems no one ever goes back and bitches at them... At my work I do PERFECT work and still have people bitchin at me

Also I bet they screwed the polarity up on the speakers, I but you got 1 or 2 maybe out of phase ?

The only reason I got four's in the back is because Circuit city would'nt do a little custom work to make the 6.5's fit.. All they saw was the 4" opening in the stock box so that's all they replaced.

Originally they told me the book said 5.75 would fit in an 86 SE, and that's what I bought, polk 5.75's all around. But during installation they saw thier errror and swapped them with a 4". They said they would have to replace all of the stock wiring because of the amps, charged me for the wire and labor, but still managed to use the stock wires. They later refunded me the price of the new wire but not the labor.

Now they may have rewired the stock plactic connectors wrong and got the polarity mixed up, they'll have to check that when I bring it back tuesday to have them hook up the antenna which they forgot to do when i first brought it in.

Normally I would rip out the 4's in the back and exchange them with 6.5's and put them in myself but that might void my warrenty on thier labor in case something catches fire, I think.

I'm considering buying an 8" Bazoka tube to offset the bass problem and capping off all four speakers, does anyone else recomment this setup?

If the speakers r wired out of phase, they will sound crappy and would explain ur lack of bass. Situations like that is why I don't pay somebody to do something I can do myself, but good luck and hope u get it straightened out to ur satisfaction.
