external antenna question

I need to replace my external antenna. I was told that i have to get one from Mazda... Anyone know if this is true or if I can use an aftermarket one.. I also oneed to know how to replace the damn thing..

door you mean the antenna mast or the antenna itself?

yes the thing thats outside on the back fender. It quit working does not go up and down. I need to replace it.

You can go after market but it will require a bit of rewireing. Or you could just get a non-powered one to replace it.

Well the mast is replaceable which if that is what is broken would be the cheapest way to go ($20 at most car stereo shops, uses a Harada Mast).

But if it is the whole power antenna motor assembly, yes most aftermarket power antennas would fit, but you are ususally looking at $60 for the antenna and an hour or so labor to put it in.

how do you replace the whole thing? Do I go though the back fender or do I remove stuff from inside

From the inside , remove the rear section were the hatch latch is then the side covering the antenna. Remove the jack cover ,there are 2 plastic holders in there. This is not a hard thing to do ,have fun.
