Efini Whale tail spoiler -> 99 spec
have any one changed from the whale tail to 99 spec spoiler? I'd like to know if the holes are the same. I would hate to drill any more holes for the wing.
any info would be appreciated.
thx

The '96-98 whale tail spoiler only attaches to 2 sets of holes, closer the center of the hatch. I'm pretty sure the '99+ wing attaches to both the inner and outer sets of holes, the outer sets you don't have.
You'll be doing some drilling.

I have one sitting in my garage and you do have to drill holes. Decided to just completely remove the wing and the car just looks so much cleaner with out it. But yea you do have to drill.
The car needs alot more work but when its done its going to be great. We've been adding things to the to do list but unfotunately, I don't think I'll make deals gap. Ahh well. Its just as well. I don't think I'd be able to drive by then anyway. As long as its finished by the Carlisi bbq!

99 spec wing eventually would give more downforce

Fitted whole spoiler today, last time missed mounting holes which will be needed to be fixed.
Otherwise spoiler fits perfectly to other four mounting points.
Sorry for crappy photo

There were 3 types of stock wings that were offered by Mazda for Rx-7 FD3S (not mentioning MazdaSpeed):
in 92-95 - double wing,
in 96-98 (Series 6-7) - so called whale tale,
in 99 and up (Series 8 and up) - adjustable.
While interchanging all three types some of fixing holes do match and are simillary distributed.
So what it takes to convert from earlier to adjustable type .
Converting from 92 - 95 model wing to 99 wing additional fixing would have to be made and one hole should be plugged as 99 wing does not cover it (green circle).
While converting from 96-98 to 99 type two additional holes should be made and one which is exact same as 92 - 95 would have to be fixed (green circle).

Don't be mistaken, actual pictures were from 97 model.
I had chance of checking how earlier type wing is sitting on 97 model car.
In first picture four red circles show where 93 model wing preriminaly should fixed.
Also you may notice that whale tale didn't have those outer holes but they should be made for 99 model.

While choosing mine in the inner side of the wing I looked for quality check marks, printed out part number and some other information .
Mine's used but I got quite nice deal for it

so I got the wing and got it painted. The thing is the 2 inner holes are pretty tough to tight on. I shouldn't have drilled them in the first place. without them being tight, the wing looks ok, nice and tight.
