In 96 was there another yellow rx7 produced besides the cym?

There was CYM, there was also a standard Yellow Mica.

1998 Rx7 RS-R had Sunburst Yellow

2001 Type R Bathurst R had Sunburst Yellow.

I have a '96 type r. Do you know where on the car I would look to find out what color it actually is?

There should be a sticker on the jamb or under the hood that states paint code.

so if you don't have those two cars you have a cym?
