Double DIN Headunit Install

Kay, so I recently got an FD and I put I'm in the process of putting in a double DIN screen from Clarion (I got a good deal from a local shop but it's got only the basic features of a double DIN, no crazy GPS). The problem I'm having is fitment.

By measurement the unit should fit, however the headunit came with extra wires for amplifier i/o's, aux, iPod, as well as the harness which is causing it to pop out an inch or two from being flush with the deck. All the excess wires sit behind it and it's got no where to go.

What can I do?

Oh, and the parking brake wire goes to the black ground wire? Or is it just grounded to metal?

Did you cut out the single din unit support that comes on the car? There isn't much room for DD units but without the supports you can usually make the squeeze. I do not however have first hand expertise you the unit you are installing.

Thanks TTE, I did cut out the single DIN plastic crossmember. I guess it was a bad idea to buy a double DIN in the first place since I can't find room to put the wires.

Not so obvious to the OP because I was not talking about the front plastic cross piece!

You need to dremel or cut out the metal back support to get extra room in the back. The OEM units are shorter than most aftermarket or DD units. Hence the piece I was talking about is the metal bar across the back.

I'm trying to get a Pioneer AVIC-D2 in my FD

How did others accomplish securing their double DIN unit in place once they get them to fit in the hole?

Any pics of someone elses project?

I had problems getting the center console off. It seems like the cluster and the console are connected together. As far as securing the unit, I'm just gonna slide it in. Pictures would be nice though.. It's too bad this forum doesn't have a DIY section like clubRSX, they have pictures and guides on everything.

Yes the center console panel is screwed behind the gauge cluster panel. You will probably need a cage for your unit if you do not have one already since the double din is not equal to two standard dins.

Here are a few threads with others who have installed DD units. Do a search and you will find everything you need. Unfortunately just not all in one thread since there are so many different configurations and products people choose to use.
