Please guys, what are your thoughts on in-dash DVD styles???

Im trying to decide on a 7 inch dvd to put in my 93 fd, and am having trouble deciding on a few things I definitely want it in dash (not flip-out motorized) and with as few buttons as possible (and only at the bottom of the screen). I dont care about navigation/bluetooth, in fact my biggest concern is replacing the original bose decks with a super clean, and simple look. so far, the most fitting model for these criteria seems like the Sony XAVW1. I also like that it can use your own wallpaper (something rx7-ish perhaps?). However, I have not been able to see one in person, and want to know if it is more grey or black (I have seen pics of both) will this match the black center console of my fd? Anyone here seen one installed? Im also planning on replacing the door speakers with infinity kappa 6.fs in the front, and 6x8s in the rear. With these be decent? Are those the best size?

Any thoughts would be really very much appreciated, thanks guys!

i have an alpine touch screen dvd player in my FD and i love it. it was a tight fit because of the wires in the back. Theres really not much room back there to begin with but me and my buddy got it to fit.

The unit i have is the IVA-W205, alpine has a few pretty cool backgrounds u can download from their site but i havent checked if u can use your own. i definitely recommend it it makes using my ipod a breeze!

I have the alpine w200 double din and love it, very clean looking and only like one or two buttons. They are going for around 400 to 500 on ebay, they are said to have better sound quality then its big brother the 205.

I purchased the Pioneer Avic D3. The D3 did not come with a double din mounting kit so some customization was required but the end result is great. I don't use the DVD function but having navigation and bluetooth with ipod touch controls is enough for me. It really brings the car into the new millenium as far as creature comforts.

Thanks for this thread. I had decided on a Pioneer deck until I started looking at this Sony. I agree with you that the look is clean. To answer your ? on the color, the pics I have seen show it as more of a flat dark charcoal, so it won't be quite as dark as the black Mazda dash plastics. However, it def won't clash, either. I also saw a very similar JVC deck that's a few hundred $ less expensive that may be a closer match: http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/JVC-7...oductDetail.do

In my first FD, I had a Sony XAV-7W, which was Sony's first in-dash monitor, about 5 yrs ago. I was very pleased with the quality and sound on that product. You really need to decide what features are important to you. If you want to control your ipod, the Pioneer ipod interface is hands-down superior to all others. My dilemma is that I am looking at center channel speakers so that, once I have a DVD system installed, I will have true 5-channel sound. newandlost, do you have a touring/Bose Acoustimass system?

So after cutting out that bracket in my dash, and failing miserably to attain the correct mounting sleeve for my deck, I took it in to a buddy that works at an install and had it put in. It did not come back totally flush, but he said we can tweak it next week to get it sitting right....here's what it looks like now.
p.s. thanks to everyone for their input, advice, and pictures!
