I just noticed the link to the schematic quicksilver posted is broken so I wanted to attach it for future reference in this thread. It was extremely helpful to me!

And here is the schematice for how to do it if you use a Millenia Bose unit with fade control. It's actually pretty neat to control how much goes to the bass rear module.

Any chance of getting the diagram re-posted? It appears to be a dead link. I'd really love to have a look at it to completely understand what you've cooked up.

Never mind--I see that it has been done!
Thanks!

Picture and wave tube update

I had the head unit out to add a PIE line amp. I didn't realize that the Bose Wave Tube was not coming on. The power is being split between four amps, two doors, center, and wave tube, which didn't allow the furthest one (wave tube amp) to turn on. I believe the amp is turned on by pre-amp signal. The line amp now boosts the head unit signal to the wave tube amp to were it comes on. I didn't realize what I was missing. Basically it sounds just like a show room floor Bose system now.

Here is a PIE line amp link http://www.logjamelectronics.com/pield1.html

Basically the photo above shows where I got pissed and had to dremel out the bracket. I promised this pick to someone earlier in this thread. Better late than never I guess.

Thumbs up Follow up question for Miata Bose head unit

Sevenheaven,

Excellent thread! I'm getting ready to look for a replacement Head unit for my 94 RX7.

Quick question. Would you do the same install again (2012) or would you go with an aftermarket head unit if you were doing it today?

Do any of the Miata or newer Bose Head units have an aux in?

Thank you,

The newer headunits really modernize the aged cabin of the FD in a natural factory looking way. No after market unit is going to give you that same feel. Check eBay for some listings.

Using the schematic from the post above, and with a 2002/2003 Protege double din with amber illumination in my base model/non-Bose equipped RX-7, everything works perfectly. The amber backlighting has different modes depending whether the parking or headlights are on and you can also turn off the backlighting if desired.

My recommendation is to remove the HVAC panel when physically mounting the headunit to see where possible interference may occur that requires trimming of the dash brace behind the radio that is mentioned above.

Here is the harness adapter I made using the info shared in this thread:
