Another layer of base coat?
I know, I know.... search..search...search.... but I did and still have the question. I had my 7 painted yesterday but my friend didn't get it on thick enough in a few places..... hood, lower part of nose cone and pass side door. Can he respray just those places or should he apply another coat to the whole car. The clear coat has not been appied yet. I have plenty of paint left. He only sprayed like 3 pints. The overall job turned out great. So........ can he like wet sand the entire 7 and then spray the thin areas or shoot the entire car.

you can just respray the areas, but there's really no reason not to shoot the whole car again.. I always go for at least two coats of basecoat over the entire car, maybe three if it was sprayed thin. if you have plenty of paint left, get out there with a 1200+ Wet sand paper, make sure EVERYTHING is smooth, and then spray the whole car again.
I guess the real question is: How do you know it isn't thick enough? If it's showing primer, you have NO choice but to respray it, if it's just looking rough/thin, you have no choice but to respray.. I don't think I understand where the question is coming from? It's either covered or its not.

sure, just spray again as long as it is within 24 hours.
If it has been longer than 24 hours wait a couple days then dry sand, prep sol, and spray again (you don't want to get water between the layers), but personally I would reshoot the whole car. If it he thin on those spots he probably is thin on ones that don't show up as easily.
And for doing the hood, it is usually easier if you take the hood off and prop it up.

The primer doesn't actually show through but at certain angles there seems to be a shadow.
One more question...... how long can I wait to have the clear coat sprayed, or does it matter. My friend ( the painter) has class all day today.

I'm saying if you have the time and paint, just give the entire car a wet sanding, then reshoot it all. It will ensure even color distribution, and probably be no more work than just shooting those other parts..
Time isn't critical with the clearcoat, as long as you can keep excessive moisture off the car. I wouldn't wait two weeks or anything, but if you guys can get on the sanding and spraying of the second base coat tonight/tomorrow it won't hurt to wait until the weekend or into next week to lay down the clearcoat.. one thing is to MAKE SURE that you do a thorough job of tack-clothing the car before you do the clearcoat, or dust that you miss or has settled on the car is about to become a perminate resident.

What are the paint manufacturer's recommendations? Have you read the application instructions on the can? They vary fom company to company. The paint system I use, I can clearcoat an hour after basecoat.
When I've had a similiar problem, I wet sand, Prep-Sol, tack then re-base the entire car. If the base looks good, then I shoot the clear right after, per application instructions.

He is just a friend, not a pro. He has never used base coat/clear coat. This is his 3rd paint job. I figure all I have to lose is the price of the paint ($500).
