Has anyone ever swapped these bigger speakers into the none bose system? what involved in it? dremeling out the door a bit to fit the increased size in speakers?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Heh...I just ordered stock size speakers for both. I do know there's an apperent issue with the hight the speaker sticks up. I guess some might hit the grill. I don't know about depth issues. I would imagine if there's enough room around the edge, you could possibly cut it out. You might even be able to just drill some new holes. Gotta have some good sounding tune for the trip Friday!! Just outta curiosity, can I assume that you're going bigger for a better selection?

well, I took it apart, and to fit the 6x9's in the 6x8's, would not work for me, first the magnet was large enough that it would stick out regardless when I reinstalled them, so id have to custom fit that, then Id have to take the speaker holder, and cut that out to fit the speaker, and I dont even know IF I could cut it out enough. Not worth the time and effort. So I took the removable peice between the trunk and the cockpit, cut it out, custom fit the speakers in there, saved some weight, and ALOT of time, and it looks great, and sounds great. I might reinstalll some sort of speaker in the stock location in the future. But thats all im doing for now, im going to do the 61/2s today.

Steve

I'll take pics also

Garfinkle has 6x9 Jl Audio in the rear stock location of his 94 with the stock grills . These speakers have big magnets . He made the mounts out of the stock mounts and had to rework the seatbelt retracters plus what ever . He put larger front speakers in the doors of his 93 also but I do not remember the size. He had to cut metal in the door to do it .

know this is not related but... I'd recommend ditching the rear fill speakers all together.... I upgraded my nonBose system with Audiobahn coaxials (5.25 front, 6x8 Plates rear) driven by a US Acoustics 4 ch. amp, with a new pioneer head unit and wasnt too pleased with the sound.

I ended up with CDT HD52 components in the front and a Inifinity Basslink in the trunk and it ****** rocked. The difference was night and day. The sound imaging with good components in frount and no rear speakers was very good.

Just my 2 cents.
