Upgrading to 4 injectors?

Upgrading to 4 injectors?

Hello everyone,
So I am only running the two stock SE injectors with my Haltech Sprint RE and the S5 intake. The tuner that I hired has got the car to run pretty good overall. The other day I did notice that I have a vacuum leak on the top of the LIM. So right now I have the entire intake completely off. I was thinking that if I were to go to 4 injectors, now would be the time to do it with the intake off for the two primaries. My question is, if I go to 4 injectors, am I going to have to start all over from scratch with tuning? Better question would be, since I don't know how to tune yet, is it worth the money to pay someone to do this at this point or just stick with the two stock injectors? Secondly, if I were to go with 4 injectors (stock SE 13B, no porting, S5 intake), should I go with stock 2nd gen injectors or go totally aftermarket? I do not plan on boosting, but will probably do some porting in the near future......nothing radical, just a street port.

Also, is there anything against forum rules to ask someone if they would be willing to help me learn how to tune for some extra cash?

for injectors you can run anything, if you have them the FC stuff works just fine. ideally you would buy something modern as primaries (rx8 injectors are a good candidate), and then the secondaries can be just about anything

i'm not sure about the tuning, in ye olde times you would have had to completely retune, but with the VE tuning you may just change some settings?

Thanks bro. It does seem that the RX8 injectors are modern and highly praised for those who have upgraded to them. I am confused about their cc rating and which ones to use. On the RX8 forum a poster says this:

"The RX-8 "hi-power" has 6 fuel injectors, 3 per rotor, that are designated primary, secondary and primary 2. The primary injectors are 290cc and the secondary and primary 2 injectors are 380cc."

But I also found on another forum people claiming that the two yellow injectors (secondary) are rated at about 450cc. Very confusing.


If anyone can add any clarity to this, it would help clear things up.

the 2004-2005 low power (automatic only in the US) had 4 injectors, and i think these are the ones people want.
the 2004-2008 high power (2004-2005 manual, and all 2006-2008) has 6 injectors
and then the 2009-2011 goes back to 4 injectors, and these probably work too

Good info. It was recommended to me that if I'm just going to upgrade the two primary injectors that I should go with 850's. I know that some of the aftermarket injectors require slightly more fuel pressure to function. I believe my OEM aftermarket fuel pump (Airtex) puts out about 46psi....can't remember. Not sure if the stock fuel pressure regulator will be an issue with newer injectors?

Hello again,
I thought I would just post on this older thread rather than start a new one since it is very related. I'm taking LIM back off again due to another vacuum leak. I believe this may be why the RPM's are dropping too low when coming to a stop. Anyway, while having the LIM off, I'm really wanting to upgrade the stock SE injectors........more so for peace of mind. There seems to be a few opinions about this ranging from, "no need to upgrade" to "use RX8 injectors" to "go fully aftermarket, since the spray pattern allows for better atomization, etc."

With upgraded aftermarket injectors in mind, my question is..........what size fuel injectors (primary) would you recommend for my non-ported engine but with adding two secondary injectors? Keep in mind that my intake is the S5 with the Haltech Sprint RE with plans to do street porting in the future? What size primaries and secondary injectors would be great for my current set up but will also allow for street porting in the future without having to swap out injectors again?

Just get a pair of ID1050s and skip adding secondaries. There’s no practical benefit to having secondary injectors. The napping is easier to get nice and smooth without having to worry about doing the transition to the secondaries. The 1050s will idle well and provide all the fuel you’ll ever need.

Wow----great advice, I never would have imagined I could go that big with the primaries. So I'm assuming that I need to get the high impedance injectors b/c of the Sprint? Then I can ditch the resistor pigtails that I have now.

ok a few questions:

Aren't IDI injectors the king that Ford uses? Who sells them? I didn't see them popping up anywhere online. Do the IDI's plug directly into my existing Haltech harness?

Ok, found them online. I was typing in ID1 injectors instead of just ID. I'm assuming that I would need the 14mm injectors? 1050x?

The IDs are all high impedance, Don’t worry about the size. We’ve run 2200s as primaries and they work great.
