S4 TPS with E6K.

Ive heard that if you run a map based tune, then the s4 tps will work fine. I know Buckey Laing is using one, but i cant even get mine to calibrate. Do i even need to? Any help will be greatly apprreciated! thanks guys!

I'd highly recommend finding an S5 throttle body and TPS and fitting that. I've had hit and miss luck with the S4 working correctly.

It's acknowledging that it's there, but it says that it's at 95% throttle at all time. When I try calibrating it's saying it's not moving.
Thanks for your help Ludwig.

Do you have it wired correctly?

I've never used it on a Haltech but it's a regular 3 wire 0-5v potentiometer so I don't see why not? Ludwig could you elaborate on the problems you have encountered?

I am still a Newb at this but I was researching a lot about using different Tps's.
I was gonna run the s4 TPS on the Haltech but it was said that is would not not read properly.
It is ok at idle but it would miss alot of data when transitioning to full throttle.Sort of a IN to full Out sort of thing.
The s5 Tps is cam operated and can transition better than the Push button type S4 tps.

The S4 and S5 sensor is the same part. They're both plungers. The difference is that the S4 plunger contact an arm that is fixed to the throttle shaft. When the shaft rotates, the arm moves away from the plunger. At about 40% throttle the arm will have moved far enough that it loses contact with the plunger. At this point the plunger is fully extended and the sensor is outputing a full 5v signal. So the ECU sees 0% throttle correctly, at around 20% throttle the ECU is seeing 50% throttle, and at around 40% throttle the ECU is seeing 100%. This usually plays havoc with the throttle pump operation of the ECU.

The S5 sensor rides on a cam. As the throttle shaft turns the cam gets smaller in diameter and maintains constant contact with the plunger. The effect is a truely linear output and proper operation. See Beefhole's link. That is the best home brewed solution I've seen yet for the S4. It's fool proof to swap in the S5 parts though, since most don't have the fab skill to do what Beefhole did.

The OP has another problem all together.

I got it to calibrate, I had a friend open and close it by hand. The car will not run though. It starts and holds idle with a little help if starting fluid. But I think once all the ether gets used up it dies. Only runs for 5 seconds. I'm trying to find a better map. But I can't get anything.

I am sure it is possible but WHY.........its hard enough getting everything to run in perfect harmony just get a Hltech TPS $100>>> build a bracket by bending a 1.5" 12g aluminum strip (piC if iu need one) drill a hole, two more to attach it to the bracket and the TB and bobs your uncle.

i can provide pics and help if necessary...

I was running the haltech TPS. I did it to run the stock OMP. Even though premixing is simple enough, it's one less thing to do. I have no issues with my setup.
