passworded ECU

whats up everyone, im having some trouble over here with my haltech plat sport 1k. last summer i had a tuner install a base map into my car and well turns out the guy passworded the haltech!

yesterday i was given another base map from a different tuner since we're gonna take the car to the dyno this coming week. i jack in the lap top, and it started to download the old base map automatically. so i click upload to erase it, so i can put the new one. then...i get the password prompt. so basically, i cannot even put in a new map until i talk to the other tuner. the guy changed his number and has moved out of state, i dont have any of his email addys either. am i completely screwed here?

so 2 questions:

-is there a way to reset the ECU firmware while in limited access mode using the v1.06 user interface? i dont have access to my car until monday. i see the option however on the UI in my screen as i write this. is it gonna ask for a password to do it??

-is there a way to hard reset the firmware without having to use the laptop so i can bypass this BS.

thank you for any information.

battled hard with the ECU yesterday, now it wants a v1.03 map in order for it to function. anybody out there with a factory CD that wouldnt mind shooting me any of the v1.03 default maps that it has? thanks. yes, ive tried the links in the base map thread but they are not working.

Once you get it unlocked, update to the latest firmware before you put any work into calibrating it. There have been some nice features added since the early version you have.

just throwing in my 2 cents here. My halwin software asks for a password if it is not connected to the car correctly. There is no correct answer to the password, it always says invalid entry.

I had to jump a few hoops to get my lappy top to connect to the haltech, so make sure you're making a good connection. Once I got it figured and the haltech interfaced with the laptop right, it did not ask for a password.

appreciate the input danish, checking to see if it was making the connection properly was my first move. always gotta start with the basics first you know?

anyway i had to do some messing around with the ECU until i finally had it quit asking for a password just to upload a completely different map. i understand that if a NEW map is passworded, it must match the original's password as well. this wasnt the case.

at one point i even cracked open the ECU to see if it had a jumper of some kind, like a PC's motherboard just so i could wipe it clean. there wasnt any present.

my next move was to upload a v1.03 map since that was the firmware's version (which i had assumed correctly). well, it fixed the problem! i uploaded the dummy 1.03 map to maintain connection to ECU (it was disconnecting automatically when it couldnt find appropriate version of new map to upload), then upgraded the firmware. afterwards i put in the real base map and there you have it. what a mess that was...
