Installing haltech on stock turbo s4, Q's about map sensor

I bought a slightly used e6k for my turbo 2 swap, The harness is already professionaly wired, looks great. My question is what does a map sensor look like, and does the haltech come with a stock 3bar map sensor, I am assuming it is somewher on the UIM since I have removed the tid and afm.

anyways if anyone also has base maps for a turboback, throttle body modded s4 that would be great

This is what the MAP sensor looks like. You don't neccesarily have a 3-bar. MAP sensors aren't/weren't included as a standard part of the Haltech kit. The sensor is ordered as an extra at the time of purchase. So the guy that bought the kit may have bought a 3-bar or a 2-bar. I have no easy way to visually determine the difference between the two.

thanks for the reply I will have to check the package to see if it was included.

I will be boosting 10-13 on the stock for the next year so I dont believe I need a 3 bar.

Do our cars come with a stock map sensor?

and I assume it is mounted on the firewall and has a vacuum hose running to it?

Rock Auto has 3-bar sensors for ~$39. ACDELCO Part # 2131545
Summit has them for ~$53. MSD-2313

Cheapest I've found them anyway.

Actually, you can.

All FC turbo boost sensors are 2-bar MAP sensors and read up to 15psi.
S4 versus S5 are wired differently, as the S5 needs both a +12VDC and +5VDC reference - both of which the Haltech has outputs for.

Ok I checked the box and there is no map sensor, I will contact the guy I bought it from to have him send it.

Just to let you guys know my car is a n/a model I am converting to turbo.

I got the haltech from a modded t2, are there any other sensors I need aside from what is on my turbo block?

I think I will reuse the TPS, and everyother stock sensor.

Just let me know if there is anything else I should ask him since he is parting his car.

Thanks

Actually with an S4 motor you will basically need all the haltech sensors, you need the air temp, coolant temp, TPS and MAP sensor, if you had an S5 intake manifold you could use the full range TPS from that and wouldnt have to retrofit the Haltech TPS.

I would recommend you just get the 3 bar map sensor, its very unlikely that you will never run more than 15psi, specially with an S4 (lower compression) motor.

so when you say all of the sensors....
air temp, coolant temp, TPS and MAP sensor
covers it all?
I had no clue that I needed to buy all of these sensors, I thought it would be retrofitted to the stock sensors onthe engine.
yeah I am getting a 3 bar map sensor just to be safe.

You can use the stock coolant temp sensor, it will just be off by 10 degrees IIRC.

I believe that people have used the stock air intake temp sens as well, but I wouldn't.

And yah, you don't want to try and use the S4 TPS as it is essentially an "on-off" switch instead of a true full-range sensor.

I looked at the kr2d guys website and I cant find a contact # or where to get prices on the sensors. Hopefully they wont be much because I just spent a good chunk on this used e6k.

and where do I install the coolant temp sensor and air intake sensor.
I was thinking about just drilling and tapping on the uim, for the air intake temp, but have no clue where to tap for a coolant sensor.

one last Q.......do you guys reuse the stock fuse box???? The haltech manual makes it seem like you install one of their own boxes.

The haltech box controls its fuel pump relay, power to the haltech and one other thing....

But you still need your main fuse box for the car.

thanks for all the answers fellas.
I read hitmans article and it seems pretty straight forward. Looking at the haltech manual can be discouraging due to its indepth detail towards to schematics and the vaugeness of the vehicle application.

My car came with a fully assembled haltech harness so once I get the relay, tps, temp and coolant sensors, and map sensors it should be cake.

Im sure this weekend when I finish up the work I will have more Q's, but as I can tell there are only about 9 clips that need to be hooked up, and then wiring the coils.....crank sensor...and regauging my fuel pump wires.

It doesnt help that the car was stripped to nothing when I got it, and I have to do all of this at once. It would have been easier if I had a running car and could go peice by peice to make trouble shooting easier.

Oh well, standalone is worth it and when its running I get to do what I know....tune!!!
