Having trouble connecting to a newer laptop

Okay, I have a total piece of crap laptop that my Haltech e6k works with. No mouse, No Cd, No way to get haltech files off of the computer for safe storage. I wanted to update but have not been able to get my haltech to hook up to my other laptop. It will connect for about a second and then disconnect and give me a reconnect haltech message.

I was using version 6.34. with the old computer, but downloaded the 7.17 for the new upgrade.

Any suggestions? The newer computer is running XP. I don't know if that is causing the "Reconnect Haltech" message or not.

help greatly appreciated.

And all ECU software can be downloaded from the Haltech website.

Thanks Claudio, I saw this information, but did not know if this was the issue, because of the reconnect message I was getting from the haltech.

Can you tell me does it matter if I use the 7.17 or 6.34? I have the 6.34 on the old computer. Is there any advantage to using the 7.17?

I believe Windows 2000 is the newest OS that you can use with the E6k.

I bought an older Panasonic Toughbook on eBay to use with mine, the tuner couldn't connect to my E6k with his XP computer either.

Well, I went through everything on the link below. Downloaded DOS box, set it all up, plugged it in with version 7.17. It starts downloading everytime, and stops downloading at the same exact place everytime. Basically the little download bar goes until about 60% of the way and then stops.

I tried it with all the sound features on and all the sound features disabled, still no luck. It stops in the same exact place everytime.

I am using an old standard serial cable that came with the haltech. It worked on the other computer, could that be causing the problem?

Anyone have any suggestions on what I can try next?

Did you make sure to set the settings on the commport for the computer accordingly? with old DOS you cant use a higher speed than 19200 bites, i would drop it down ti 9600 just to try. If the problem persist, you may have a faulty ECU. The procedure then is to ship it to Oz for repairs.

Yeah, I went back and checked, it is at 9600. I am going to try another laptop, and see if there is any difference. I may try a new cable, just to be sure.

The Haltech was sent back in January for repairs to a blown ignition driver. If this is a Haltech issue, you would think they would have caught it then.

We've tried on several occasions to make it work with XP, using the com port. It will start to load then freeze when almost complete. Then tried a Com/usb adapter BDC tried this and couldn't find a way to get it to work that I'm aware of. I havent found a way either.

Well, I could not get it to work at all before using DosBox. With Dosbox, it downloads half way and then freezes up.

At this point I feel like I am looking for a needle in a haystack. I am going to try a different laptop, and a different connector, and see if any of those fix the problem.
