Haltech Sprint RE Platinum CAS Issues
Haltech Sprint RE Platinum CAS Issues
Hello everyone,
I am finally installing my Haltech Sprint RE with the custom harness that Chris made for me about 9 years ago (don't ask why, lol). Anyway, the problem I am having is that the home and trigger counts are way off. I traced each wire (2 green and two yellow) from the CAS for continuity at the ECU pins according to diagram. All 4 wires check out good. I also checked every other pin on the ECU connector to make sure that wasn't continuity on wires that there shouldn't be to rule out any of the home and trigger wires touching other wires. What was really interesting is that even with the home wires disconnected from CAS, they still are counting on my ECU manager screen. If I disconnect the trigger, same thing. So not only are the number counts off, but they are showing up as counting even when only one side is connected. Keep in mind that this is a professionally built custom harness from C. Ludwig. The quality is top notch and very well made. I do not suspect anything with the harness. I am leaning towards a bad CAS or a bad ECU? The CAS is a stock S5.
Two other issues I am having are the Coolant Temp sensor and the intake air temp sensor. They are both reading -460.
Please let me know your thoughts.
Thanks!
Mike

if you have another CAS plug it in, and spin it by hand. you might also try loading the base map, and then reloading your map, it could be a software thing. its also possible that you're missing a ground, or a fused power or something like that too.
Thank you for the reply. I don't have another CAS on hand. I disconnected/reconnected the home/trigger plug then cranked it over. This time home was at zero and trigger was 217. I had a friend of mine help me try and get this solved. He's an RX7 guru and knows Haltechs really well. He is stumped too. He said that the ECU manager should detect and show the proper teeth count, assuming the CAS and ECU are working properly.
I even took CAS back out and re-stabbed it just to see if it would change anything. Regardless of how off the timing may be, the teeth count should be accurate, correct?
I was hoping to connect with Ludwig today. If you or anyone else want to give me a call today to walk me through the set up and troubleshoot a bit, I would appreciate it.
Thanks!

Hello again,
I was able to connect with C. Ludwig today. He was able to get the Coolant Temp and the Intake Air Temp within range. I still have an issue with the CAS. Chris and I pretty much ruled out the CAS. The CAS home doesn't register anything. But if I plug the trigger wires in the home spot, it starts counting. I checked for continuity, once again, from the home wires on the harness to the ECU.......perfect continuity. I also checked the home wires for ground to make sure there wasn't any interference or an intermittent ground. At this point, it is looking like there may be a problem with the Haltech. Keep in mind that although this ECU sat untouched for 9 years, it was never installed and was purchased brand new. Hard to believe it is the ECU, but I guess anything is possible, especially when the ECU sat for that long. I'm sure the ECU was perfect when purchased, but time has a way of messing with stuff. Have any of you ever sent an ECU out to get fixed?
Thanks,
Mike

have you tried adjusting the pick-ups in the cas to get a stronger signal? from what i remember you can move them closer in to get a stronger signal. it has been a minute, but from what i remember i have done this in the past with this issue.
Thanks for the suggestion. I ran a new harness (4 wire) just for the CAS. It is temporarily connected. It seems that I do have home and trigger now. The issue now is that when I crank it over, it feels and sounds like it's way out of time. I'm 99% sure I stabbed the CAS correctly. If I'm not on the mark, it definitely should be in the ball park to start it. Not sure what the issue is now. If you've ever tried cranking a piston engine over where the dizzy was like 180 degrees out, that is what my SE sounds like when cranking.

Hello again,
Can someone confirm that I have the CAS wires hooked up correctly? This is the stock S5 CAS to Sprint RE harness.
Green wire from CAS goes to Home Positive
White/Black from CAS goes to Home Negative
Red wire from CAS goes to Trigger Positive
White wire from CAS goes to Trigger Negative
Thanks!
