El Nene 7 -E6X questions and concerns thread

Model: 91 T2
Engine: S4 streetported engine
Turbo: Garrett gt40
EMS: E6X
Fuel system: 750cc/1600cc- aeromotive a1000-SS lines- KGparts rails-A1000 FPR-surge tank system

QUESTION 1- I was tring to locate where i install my water temp sensor, because i tried to fit it on top of my thermostat neck and it dont fit. The sensors thread is bigger than the stock one.

QUESTION 2- Where do i hook up my air temp sensor at.

As i start my install i will use this thread to ask frequent questions, because my primary engine tuner died so i will have to rely on you guys to get me up and running on a base map just for break in period.

Thank you very much- Alex

for the water temp sensor.. Youll either need to buy a new one that fits in your stock location and is compatible with the haltech. A few threads down, theres a link that shows where to buy one from. Theyre like 30 bucks. I believe Claudio has one also. Or youll need to take your water pump housing to a machine shop and have them tap the thread just a tad bigger to fit the haltech sensor.

For the air temp sensor.. Im putting it where the stock one goes on my TB adapter. Im just having that hole tapped bigger also.

You can buy the water temp sensor from haltech in vista, they are right next to Speed Machine Perfromance off Palomar Airport road.

Since your in oceanside, if you want to take a trip down to san diego, I can tap the sensor for you, or if your in the military they should have the correct tap at the base hobby shop. Any plumbing store will probably also carry it for around 10 dollars. The non metric water temp sensor that you have will also work, if the hole is tapped out.

Actually, the Haltech office in Vista is no longer there, they moved back to Temecula. So, you'll have to either buy a 3/8" NPT tap or the Metric thread sensors to fit on your stock water pump, or get it through Speedmachine.

dave just used my stock water temp sensor behind my water pump housing.
and for the air temp just drill a hole and tap it with the correct thread where your stock air temp sensor goes.

Drill out the hole with a 5/8" drill bit. Tap with a 3/8 NPT. Install haltech sensor...

OR

Use the stocker, but I'm unsure of its accuracy...

Stock location. Drill with 5/8 drill bit, tap with 3/8 NPT. Or "stock" location of the bung on the Higgi or Greddy elbow can be drilled/tapped also.

OR

BDC had installed his in the front rotor's OMP inlet on the LIM. I believe he was strivign to find out intake air temps that were as close to the combustion chamber as possible. Unsure of his level of success with this location, but if you're running pre-mix and want to try some experimentation, give that spot a try.

It works very well for seeing actual IAT's, but it's weird with respect to fluctuating, ambient air temps. I recommend keeping in the TB inlet adaptor or that same area. Moving it to the LIM goofed with me enough to throw my entire map off and send me on a 2-week long wild goose chase looking for problems that didn't exist.

The air temp sensor should be placed in the intake where it sees all the airflow but be as close to the engine as possible.
The "plenum" is where the air all sits in before it shoots down the runners, but weird resonances and dead spots make it a "bad" place to put the air temp sensor.
So looking further upstream, we hit the throttle body...
Look for a restriction area...
My fav is to just drill out the rear hole left over from doing a TB mod.
This makes the install pretty clean, but keeps the air temp sensor in a very good spot.
