E6K vs. Platinum Sport 1000

Hi all. I bought a used E6K many years ago, and never installed it in my car. Well I am getting ready to have my engine rebuilt and plan to go stand alone when I pull the engine. I know that EMS technology has progressed quite a bit since the time of the E6K, and would just like some opinions on whether or not I should ditch the E6K for something newer or not.

The car is a primarily a street car. I want to keep power steering and A/C. As I recall, the E6K can still adjust the idle for A/C. However, for this reason, the closed loop fuel control on the Platinum series also sounds appealing to me. My primary concerns here are reliability and drivability. I have read posts stating that the E6K lacks low RPM resolution, and thus, is hard(er) to idle smoothly.

Engine will be basically stock for now. However, in about a year I plan to upgrade the turbo (something along the lines of a GT35R), fuel system, etc. I think either ECU should be able to handle the power I'm looking at just fine.

Keeping in mind that I would need to sell the E6K and buy a PS1000, is it worth it? Any thoughts/suggestions are welcome.

Ditto.

I'm just wondering mostly if the E6K is worth keeping.

^^ My response to all of you.

I have a FC with a 4 barrel intake manifold and non progressive TB. Tunning the idle was not spot on, so we had to use the "closed loop idle" map, which worked like a champ. In addition, the throttle transition between 2500-3000rpms had hiccups (due to non progressive tb), not too bad, but they were there. The issue was resolved with the "throttle enrichment" map (can't remember if thats the actual name of the adjustment), which pretty much resolved that issue.

The only real complain that I had, was the transition from primary to secondary. I am using 1600cc injectors, and the transition other than WOT was not spot on.

If you have the e6k already installed, and ready to go, I would keep it and call it a day. If its not installed and tuned, you might want to upgrade, if you have the money.

I kept mine for as long as I could, untill the ecu died on me. If you are considering a sport ecu, I suggest you talk to Chris Ludwig, his ID on the forum is C.Ludwig (I believe). Easy to deal with, and answered all of my questions, which is not an easy task!

The short version is that the PS1K is the newer version of the E6K, with the following features added:

USB connectivity
Windows-native ECU Manager software (No more Dos-based Halwin)
On-board 1.5 bar (22psi) Map Sensor
User-configurable Virtual gauges for any aspect of the ECU
Canbus hosting of additional devices like the I/O-12 expander (12 more inputs/outputs)
Coolant Temperature-based Rev Limiter
Lots more Input/Output 'profiles' such as PWM fan switches, A/C Idle-up and so on
More features can be found on Haltech's site

If you snagged the E6K for cheap enough, put it to use. Just make sure you have a laptop with a serial port that can run Halwin and your tuner has experience with the ECU & software. If you need/want the features a PS1K offers, sell the E6K in the Classifieds. PS1K's are around $1500 new for the ECU only, $1700 with a Flying Lead harness.

There's always someone looking for a standalone that can't afford a 4-digit pricetag. FC owners, especially S4NA guys seem to be most well-known for this

Same question was just posted a few days ago.

FWIW, the Sport and E6 ECUs are not even a fair comparison. The Sprint is really a much more apples to apples comparison. You're really jumping to a whole different level with the Sport. If anyone has specific questions, feel free to PM me or email us. ludwigmotorsports@insightbb.com

Keep in mind you have to find a laptop that has Windows 98 on it for the E6K.
I know you can get it to work on other OS's, but it is pretty hard doing that.
I switched from the E6K to the P1K and went through Chris. He has the best support I have ever encountered.
The difference between the two EMS is huge.

Thanks for the reply. I found in my research that the Sprint and the E6 were pretty comparable. That's why I wouldn't really even consider "upgrading" to a Sprint. I've PM'ed you a couple of specific questions about the Sport series.
