E6K Install which Oxygen Sensor to use

Sorry if this sounds like a newbie question, but I am not to familar with the haltech. Does it matter what kind of an O2 sensor I use?

In the instructions it mentions I can use a 1, 3, or 5 wire type. Which should I use?

Thanks

the single wire is the cheapest most people will probably go with the 3 wire heated o2

Either a 3 wire or a 4 wire is best, since they will have the built in heaters which get the sensor running a lot quicker, the single wire ones tend to be very slow reacting and dont work right at idle.

Anybody got a 3 wire, 4 wire, or know the part number I need?

go with a tech edge unit that comes with the sensor.

you need a wideband controller. the haltech takes a single o2 input and that can be taken from any o2 sensor. the problem is, wide band sensors need a controller. the controller spits out a signal that uses only one wire. so this single output goes into the haltech.

hope that explained it.

Are you saying to tap a wideband into the haltech unit, and use the wb's existing O2?

First, unless you're planning to run closed loop (which may or may not provide any positive results) just skip the narrow band O2 sensor. It won't provide useful info for tuning.

For closed loop to work correctly you need to get the base tune pretty darn close in the first place which requires the use of a wideband.

If you are going to get, or have, a wideband already and plan on leaving it in the car then by all means use the narrow band output from the wideband for your closed loop needs.

If you absolutely need a narrow band sensor just look for a universal 3 or 4 wire. The only difference is that the 4 wire has a ground wire for the heater and sensor where the 3 wire has a single common ground. The 4 wire is potentially more accurate. Stock number 29410 at sparkplugs.com sets you back about $30.

I have a used 3 wire laying around. I guess they are all the same regardless of what car they are being sold for, so I will use this one. Thanks
