Anyone tried these coils?

http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

I'm installing meth/water injection over the winter and thinking about beefing the ignition up to suit the needs that the strange soup/fuel mix will need to be lit up.

I have thought about an HKS twin power, jacobs FC1000 etc...the typicals. Then I thought about LS1 coils. I know they're good but I don't know how superior they are to the stock FC coils I'm running now. Then I found the ones I linked to.

Seems to me they'd wire up the same as LS1 coils since they are dierect replacements, but they'd - obviously - have a little more snap then the stock GM units.

Just wondered if this is a half-baked way of getting some major spark, or if it seems like a good idea.

I'd probably only run two - one per leading plug.

Also, say I did run 4........would the E6X be able to drive them?

Thanks!!

yes LS1 coils work and are reccomended by alot of people.
I understand they burn out easy though if not setup perfectly.

mazdatrix uses these on their haltech cars.
you can buy stock AC delco coils for 45 bucks a pop.

Yes, I know LS1 coils work. I was more curious as to the benefits of the MSD replacements for the LS1 coils.

OK purchased them last night along with an MSD 6a.

It won't be running again until the spring, but expect to hear my review then

EDIT: I verified with a few local Corvette "guys" () that these are in fact entirely direct replacements for the LS1 coils we would use, so they *must* work for my app. Just need to figure out how to wire them and the MSD up to the E6X.

What did you buy an MSD 6A for?

The LSx coils have built in ignitors and all the circuity is encased. It's not possible to use the 6A with those coils.

Sorry, should have been more clear - I was going to try the 6A and the stock coils, then the MSD LS1 coils.......but I guess I'd have to take the 6A off to try them?

But after reading that link I may re-think my choice.

Hey, any thoughts on running the MSD LS1 coils for the trailing, and using the 6A with a pair of the 8207 ( http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku )coils for leading?

Would I run into issues with with the firing edge? Meaning, would setting up the ignition like that require the leading to fire from a different edge the then trailing (rising vs. falling) ? or no?

I dont really think you can do LS1 coils with an MSD CDI box, since the igniter is built in and you cant really bypass it.

You should just get MSD SS coils, they are pretty good and combined with an MSD provide "arc welding" spark.

Thanks Claudio, you're correct.

I'll be trying first the stock 2nd gen coil with a 6A boosting it and go from there. I've been in touch with a few MSD guys who actually advised trying the stock coils because they've even said they're pretty stout. It was reassuring too because they weren't simply trying to sell a pair of coils, they actually just gave me good advice.

If thats not enough I'll step it up to some SS coils as Crispeed outlines in the thread he linked.

And in trying to figure out what to run and how to make this better, I'm realizing how little I know about ignition systems....books are fun

Keep in mind that LS1 coils and LS2 coils are different, and require different settings

The LS2 coils are supposed to be better, and within that range the mitsubishi (I think its mitsu) are supposed to be better than delphi

I can confirm the LSx coils will not work with the MSD ignition amp boxes. I took Crispeed's recommendation and bought the 8207 MSD Blaster Coils from Summit. These, combined with the MSD ignition amp solved my problem.

FYI - I've just posted my 6 LS1 coils for sale in the 3rd gen sale thread and the 20B thread:
