TX What to do with my Turbo II? Engine Q's

Ok guys I will have my tax refund in a couple days and thanx to a very savvy gent at liberty tax place I will be getting about 2500 back. So... my 88 TII needs an engine or a rebuild and prolly ought to have a turbo but the one I have is ok so thats optional. My question is who in my area (east texas) is a reputable builder and or what engine should I go with?

13bt s4 or s5
fd 13btt
or the cosmos/eunos 13btt? (same as fd 13btt???)
Or get creative and turbo my S3 13b

Yes I am using the search button and looking on my own but I figure this will make an interesting discussion so b4 you break out the flame thrower please consider the volume of info on this subject on the internet and think about trying to read thru all of it in a reasonable time frame.

Just to clarify I have found all but the s5 TII and S3 N/A engine online complete with trans ecu harness and I/C and am wondering how difficult it would be to do the swap and how these engine stack up against each other for performance vs reliabiltiy.

With a $2,500 budget I suggest buying a used J-spec engine and drop it in.....

Of the engines listed which would be your suggestion? I was initially thinking just an s4 13bt but I can get any of the above and still have about $1k to spend which I would think would be sufficient to make any of them work. I just don't know what it'll take to get the 13btt out of the FD RX or Cosmo into my car.

so you have a tII with a blown engine? get it rebuilt with a streetport and put it back in. if its not in terrible shape you could rebuild it for under a grand. with 2500, i would buy a used rebuilt shortblock(s4)about 1000 bux, a used haltech e6k about 600, a used bnr, some 1600 sec. inj, and then tune. its possible, i know, ive done it. good luck!13brew is not an easy swap, 13bre from japan is much easier, old school 13b is whack, s5 jdm motor into s4 is a pain in the dick, besides, you already have all the s4 stuff.

Ok pardon my ignorance but which is the 13bre and which is the 13bre? I may have a set of injectors, they came out of my GSL-SE but I cant remember the size atm. What is so whack about the s3 13b or is it just the idea of swapping it into the FC? BTW mine is no longer FI and probably has close to the same output as the stock turbo. And I dont have the S$ stuff someone had already done an S5 swap before I got the car but it will need some rework cuz it was a hack job at best.

If you want a Rebuild there are two Independent Re builders that I would Suggest.

BDC or Myself

I have a big following and so does BDC.

50% of the engines ordered offline will fail u in less than a year so heres what u nead to rebuild your engine.
Highly recommended: Rebuild...

S4 13B engine gasket set.
Atkins solid 2mm corner seal set.
S4 13B side seal set.
S4 13B side seal spring set.
Atkins viton oil o rings.
Bearing, main.
Rotor bearing.
Corner seal spring set.
Short style oil filter.
Some new oil and spark plugs.

Till here u have about $500. from atkins shipped to your door.

Lets c u have left $2000 to send it to a good shop to be rebuilt and ported.

Makes sense hummm...

I am definitely considering that. Can you give me an idea of what it would cost?
My engine is an S4 or S5 block not sure which but it has no EGR port on the top and knock sensor bungs above the plug holes. (seems like this is S5 but cant remember)
The only problem I had with it before I pulled it was it was smoking bad enuf that the local sheriff told me it was a road hazard! I bought the car like this and after checking it over discovered the OMP was not connected. The turbo feels ok and produced good boost with no apparent noise or vibration. The engine did lose oil pretty quickly but it also had a bad leak. Compression tested very even at 110 on all sides and aside from the smoke started ok and ran good.

Hey I don't know if any of you guys would be interested but I have a pretty nice older SUV listed for trade here:
https://www.rx7club.com/non-rotary-automobiles-parts-188/91-suburban-very-clean-%243500-884452/
I would take an engine build in trade but would really prefer cash or go fast goodies. Well most anything for my FC even another FC if it ran and drove. I know some of you guys have some stuff laying around your shop that you dont need The tags just went out and I really dont want to tag it again just to drive it once a month.
