the cooter valve regulates the flow of oil to the cooter proportioning block, which distributes oil to the upper and lower halfs of the intake area. get rid of it, and you car will have more testosterone.

Mazda put it there for a reason. Leave it alone.

That is an oil level sensor. It is a float switch. Very few cars have them, I know of no others that do. Turns the oil light on when low oil level. Not the same as an oil pressure switch, which also turns the light on when the oil pressure is low (cannot remember right now if they are the same or different lights). Anyway, it is there since the car is designed to burn crankcase oil. You can remove it, if, like most enthusiants, check your level oil regularly.

if i'm not mistaken, there are 2 "things" you can see on the oil pan besides the plug. one is the level sensor (held on by 3 bolts), the other is the temp sensor (looks like a larger verison of the water temp sensor). which are you referring to?

If it's only one wire, then it is the oil temp switch.

It's not a temp sender, it's the switch that engages the sub-zero assist.

Not familiar with the FD, but no 1st-gen or 2nd-gen ever had an oil pressure idiot light.

Heck, the SA didn't even have an oil pressure gauge. They only had the low oil level light. That shows you how much Mazda is concerned with oil pressure.
