Transmission question.

I have been told that the FD has a divorced transmission, but I can't find anything to back up this claim. Do they have a divorced tranny? If so, when did Mazda start doing this?

But more importantly, is it married to the engine or to the rear end?

divorced means that it is not mated directly to the engine.

Here is a picture:

It's a C5 Corvette rear/transmission assembly. I have been told that th FDs have a similar set up, but I can find nothing to prove or disprove that.

OK, thanks.

I was told originally that the FD was the same set up for 50/50 weight, and that it was something the designers took with them to GM.
