Tap the starter case with a hammer then try it. If it works, you can keep doing it for a while, but you will gave to buy a new or used starter.
If you've been doing burnouts or are bad at driving stick shift you could have overheated the flywheel and broken the ring gear loose. You can pop the plug on the bottom of the trans and look in with a flashlight to see if the ring gear is broken off or not. You can also tell by pulling the starter.

the cog on the starter motor should fly out & extend to meet the flywheel when cranking.
sounds like its not extending..take it out of the car and run it off a battery to check.
