Need more info. What color is the smoke?
Blue smoke = burning oil
White smoke = burning coolant
black smoke = burning fuel, which means you are running rich.

When you say what is the best oil, what do you mean? What is the best brand, the best weight, or the best type; synthetic or natural?

oh, and for gasket sets, you can get them from www.atkinsrotary.com www.mazdatrix.com www.rotaryaviation.com and a few other places. Each place includes different things in their kit. There is no standard kit. They all pretty much include as a minimum, all the gaskets and rubber seals for the block. Others may or may not include oil control rings for the oil seals on the rotors, and may or may not include apex seals and associated equipment for the rotor. The more thats included, the higher the price.

The only way coolant gets into the combustion chamber is if the coolant seal breaks. I dont' know if you know what the inside of a rotary engine looks like, or how much expirience you have with any kind of engine, but its a serious ordeal. It would be the equivilant of blowing a head gasket on a piston engine.

For oil, use what ever the manual says. I honestly dont' remember what the book says for FCs. I use 20W-50 for my first gen RX-7 but I don't remember without looking at the book as to what kind I just put in my 2nd Gen. Don't use synthetic oil. The rotary has an oil injection system to help lubricate the apex seals. The oil is injected into the rotor housing and intake manifold. It goes into the rotor and gets burned off with the gas. Synthetic oil wasn't meant to burn. There are studies that show whose oil cools and lubricates the best. Some show which oils benefit the engine better at the microscopic level and all this other stuff. I can't tell you what the best oil is because each oil does something better than the rest and everyone will have an oppinion on what they think is the best. My opinion is, as long as you have oil, you have the best oil.
