Rotor seal clearance
Hi all,
For what seems to be the 10th question I've asked the forum about rotor seal clearances, here is maybe the last one.
For my S4 T2 rebuild I'm finding that the clearance is 0.003 thousandths when the feeler gauge is able to bottom out in the groove. As expected, the groove is wider at the top. I can get the max allowable gauge (per the FSM) of 0.006 thousandths but just at the very tip of the gauge.
stepping down to the next smaller gauges I get the same thing.
The above picture is a bit blurry but that is the 0.004 thousandths gauge and it's able to go further in than the 0.006 gauge but not all the way down to the bottom of the groove.
My gut reaction is to replace this rotor and pair it with the new rotor I bought (the other rotor had much worse grooves than this one). However, I don't want to spend $500-1000 if it's not absolutely necessary. Any help and insight is always appreciated and you all have really been helpful so far getting me through this first rebuild of my own.
If I did decide to just buy a new rotor anyway, would this rotor be a candidate to sell as a used option for someone else or is it completely toast?
