I rebuilt my 12a engine using hylomar for the "legs" of the rotor housings. Is this ok or did i have to use gasket sealant? Thanks for any help. - Nick

 

on the legs i always use gasket sealant but that is just me

 

i've always used gasket sealant as well.
hylomar is really tacky, but eventually seeps away.


sealant is a SEALANT, and should do a better job sealing over time.

 

Hylomar is a sealant. Google it. It's very common to see it used on gearbox cases and differential covers. Dana uses a similar non-hardening sealent as an OE diff cover sealant on Ford axles. I've done engines both ways and Hylomar will work ok on the legs. I mostly use silicone because it's easier to find and less expensive.

It's easy to please when you give the answer someone wants to hear. If it leaks the other guys will say I told you so.
