Unhappy No power : What do i do?

i just purchased an 88 rx-7 GXL at an auction. It was repossessed and i have no idea whats up with it. I took a chance when buying it because i never even had a chance to start it. But after i bought it i got it boosted and it started. It idled at like 2000 rpms but after it warmed up it would go down in rpms and eventually stall out. After the car warms up and i try to start it, it won't start most times or barely starts. The other day i started it up and drove it around abit. It had no power at all. I could barely get it to spin on icy roads and it revs super slow in neutral. Any help or suggestions would me much appreciated.

Mike

Sounds like stuck apex seal. Running on one rotor, no power, barely will idle if at all.

Do a compression test first. If compression is low, then the motor needs a rebuild, no way around it, and all other problems are pretty much irrelevent. If compression is good, and the exhaust doesn't have blue, or white smoke coming out, it needs a tune up. White smoke means the engine is burning coolant. Blue means its burning oil. Each one will require a rebuild, but you can get away with driving the car for a while if its burning oil. Burning coolant is bad and you shouldn't drive the car. The coolant starts messing up the rotor housings and plates, which will make it more expensive to rebuild because more parts have to be replaced. However, you can buy a new engine at a variety of places for about $1000 usd.

pull the spark plugs out, fill the chambers with MMO (marvel mystery oil ) and let it soak for a week or so (turn the engine over by hand every once in awhile). If that doesn't work, then you're in for a rebuild

PS i learned the hard way...

atf the engine. do a tune up, plugs, wires, etc. replace the fuel filter, all fluids. then start to trouble shoot. even if you have a stuck apex seal, letting it soak in atf/mmo will probably free it. make sure and soak it well and for a couple of days.

a clogged cat will generally let the car idle but will fall on its face once you get on the pedal.

It won't damage anything, it will be loud as hell though

MMO is marvel mystery oil. Its an oil that you can either add to your fuel or to your oil to clean either system. Since the Rotary engine injects oil into the fuel, it builds up carbon in the engine cause burning motor oil leaves carbon. MMO will clean out this carbon. I always recommend people use 2 stroke oil since it was designed to burn cleanly. Do a search on MMO in the 2nd Gen forum and you will find out lots about it.
