I need some confirmation

I have an 88 GTU and on saturday I checked my oil level and I had about a qaurt and I checked the coolant a nd the resovoir was empty. So I filled both the coolant and the oil. Then yesterday I drove my car 10 miles to work and it was fine, but when I took my break I took a drive down the street. When I started the car I drove it 20 feet the it just cut off, I started it back up it started to sputter then it cut off again. And it did the same thing 3 more times. When I got back to work I was told that it might be the fuel filter so I changed it, after that it started fine and idled fine. But at the end of the day when it was time to leave the car started but when I went to drive up the hill to get to the street it cut off and would not start again, so I pushed it back to my job. And thats where it sits now. So can anyone confirm from this that maybe the apex seal is blown or something like that, I just need to know what my next move should be. Thanks for reading this and thanks for the help.

A blown apex seal is consistant and will still idle and run but rougher.

Starting, running, then quitting, sounds like a fuel supply problem.
