Best Wheel/Tire SIZE Combo for the FD???

Not seeking to go racing but I enjoy driving the car hard thru the twisties and Im looking to improve the cars looks while Im at it. So if anyone knows off hand or better yet has read from a reliable source about the BEST wheel/tire combination I wld greatly appreciate you passing it along!

Johnny's right again. But I'll take a whack at it by way of deduction.

The first thing to answer your "Best handling" question, the O.G.'s are gonna tell you to run the same size tire front and rear.
And most likely reccommend a 17" wheel, for a good priced performance tire. That would then be a 255/40/17 front and rear, to keep close to stock O.D.. That's really good width up in the front for a street car.

After looking at that width and the possible offsets available in varying widths, the O.G.'s might reccommend a 17x9 front and rear. This is what TAZ runs on his red FD, Black SE37k's front and rear. That car is so GORGEOUS from the few pics I've seen. Too bad we can't get black anymore, powdercoat though.

So, I would say a 17x9 with 255/40/17's, so if you find out from other guys who is running this and what wheels they are, I can probably figure out the offset. Please ask them if they rub and is your vehicle lowered.

I agree with Rishie..17x9 and 255's all the way around would be a good compromise for all that the FD could do well...Street/strip/track/autox.

Go lightweight on rims ofcourse...

I didnt really think it was that difficult or open ended type of question tho.

Are either of you into sportbikes? Right now, the best tire set up for high performance riding/racing is a 120/70/17F--180/55/17R. Some of these new bikes have wider wheels and tires (up to 200) . Other than for show, its pretty much pointless, they dont even offer those sizes in a DOT race compound cuz they dont make the bike handle any better.

My point?
I was hoping the FD has been thru all the hoopla of ppl and/or magazines tests and been proven by now to know what tire/wheels work best with it.

Thnx again for the response you got me closer to what I wanted to know. And I think ur right.......255 all the way arnd wld be pretty sweet. Plus I like the idea of having the option to rotate the tires properly, these tires arent getting any cheaper!

I've heard its not good to stagger the tires with an FD is this true? I was thinking about getting 18x8 up front with 18x9 in the rear. What size tire should I be running if i have stock spring with this setup?

get some really nice 18's...dont worry about the weight. also keep the stockers, since they are light as ****.

the absolute best in terms of looks is 18x9 with 245/35-18 front and 18x10 with 285/30-18 rear. that is the best plus size, hands down. the closest humanly possible to the stock tire diameters. i dont know how that setup will fare on the track, but who cares. keep the stock 16s for racing because they are REALLY light!

i personally think it is a waste to buy really lightweight rims. the stock ones are light enough. just get some nice, blingin, deep lipped 18s, and dont worry about the weight. they wont be your wheels for racing. your stockers will.

just my $0.02.

but it's hard finding the 245x35x18 size... but I am getting 18x9 and 18x10 like you stated.

What kinda offsets are we talking about for the 18x9.....18x10's?? If I went w/ somethng like that I dont want ANY clearance issues.

the 285's will not fit unless...front that is..rears should work

1. you have the 2.5 coilovers..
2. probably need to roll the fenders also..

I personallly thought about it and said...nah.. realistically I will never run that..let alone drive my car..the way it seems lately..
I'm going with 18x9 in front..run a more everyday 235/245 size and go 18x10 in back.. 265 or 285 out there..

when there a will there is a way.. I know you get 265 up front with the correct offset and the other stuff I mentioned.

285s fit just fine on the front with a very slight fender rolling. Ive been using 18x10s in the front and rear and it works wonders on the track. For the street, id likely go with17x8.5 or 17x9 with 255 40 17s. It might depend on the quality ot the roads in your area, in the midwest our roads are far from good. If you have nice roads and really want 18s, 285 30s work great.

MY FINAL ANSWER:

Enkei RP01: 18,9 front and rear +42mm offset, Run the 245/35 or 255/35 rotatable

This is a very light wheel for its size and casting. They are running out and already discontinued. Can be had for $825.00 shipped.

You can't beat that. If you want to see a pic, e-mail me and I'll shoot you a couple. I bought two sets for my FC, because they are expendable and look sweet in my opinion. Track 17,8 and 9. For the street I run a 18,9.5 in the rear.

What would be the best wheel tire size for autox and drag.. I know these would prob be the exact opposites but i wanta here wut u guys think..I cant make up my mind if i want 2 keep a sleeper or get some nice rims and tires.. I know regardless i will have 2 get some nice rubber 2 hold the kind of power i will be producing when we finish. 400-500

Forget 19's..they make no sense...only for SHOW

18x10 all the way around...285x30x18 if you can fit em'...would be a awesome track set-up.

Ofcourse I am going to run 18x9 (f) and 18x10 (r)...but me FD runs in the garage most of the time.

19s are only for show queens that will never see the street.

the BEST setup for 18's for the track is what Johnny stated above. 285/30s on 18x10s all the way around. you will need coilovers to run that size in the front.

for the street, nothing can beat an 18x9 and 18x10 wheels with 245/35 and 285/30.

have you guys ever seen burn out marks made by Scorchers?? they look pretty tight! these tires were on the local news once since some people were taggin' with these tires, and cops were bustin people with these tires on their cars.
