oktey im wondering whats everybodys opinon on premixing in your 7?

My opinion, it's good and you don't have to worry about the MOP failing.

 

Now that my motor is running right I was thinking of doing this mod. (little at a time). I cna't see anything wrong with it at all.

What do yo think of Nac?? You've been there for a few months now. Are you going to go to SFA??

Ounce for Ounce Pre-mix uses MUCH more lubricant than the MOP system.

Even if the two stroke was worse at lubricating than regular engine oil(which I doubt given you use quality products) there is MORE of it which makes up for whatever possible lube defficiency there is present.

 

i like it really havent done anything cause the 7 is down getting worked on by chris and i really only been here for about 3 weeks.. but i kinda miss kansas . and no im not going to sfa.... crossroads?? i dunno what that is ?

 

unless, of course, you have an S5 with a POS Electric stepping motor MOP ...then you still have to worry about it failing...but at least the engine won't scrape itself to death

 

S5 people usually just unhook it from the front cover and tie it up somewhere in the engine bay, while still leaving it connected electrically I believe.

 

and when it dies, the car is still undrivable. that's what i was going for :p

 

I use only premix. Motul 600 100% synthetic ester

 

All mazda race cars have used premix.
Every single person I know that races rotaries run premix.

One would deduce from that it may be better for the engine, significantly.

Wether or not its better for you to run it? Well that depends if you can be bothered to put it in every time you put fuel in your car..

Me, I personally don't mind. Been premixing for near on 3years now.

 

I premix, 100:1 ratio. Disabled my OMP.

Xept on the GXL, It's bone stock (minus the PD).

I don't premix and never have, but I've read a lot about it. It's sounds like a good idea to me and it wouldn't bother me at all to have to add it to the gas at every fill up. The only problem I have with it is the extra cost.

One quart of motor oil ranges from $1.50 to $2.00.
It already costs me ~$30 to fill up my tank.
I don't know how much premix costs.
What (approximatly) are the added costs per fill up when you start to premix?

I am assuming that premixing costs more. But by just how much? That's very important to me.

 

depends on the oil you use, i just use the cheap stuff and have had no problems, costs about an additional $.75 per fillup with with 2 stroke oil.

 

Figure it this way: if you buy the cheap stuff by the gallon at Wal-mart (about $6 I think), and you mix with a 100:1 ratio, you'll use about 20 ounces for 16 gallons of fuel.

If 128 ounces cost $6, then 20 onces costs about 94 cents.

I think I should throw this out:


The proper ratio(one ounce per gallon of fuel) is 128:1 not 100:1. If you are racing then you want to try a higher concentration than 128 to 1 but for the street you should be fine with that. Some people even use much lower concentrations such as 1 ounce per four gallons which is somewhere in the 500:1? region

 

Yes, but most premix is only rated to operate at 100:1 or more.

 

Those ratios of oil to gas are too rich for daily driving, guys. 128:1 is for constant high-rpm in a racing situation or drag type stuff; more like 160:1 to 180:1 is ok for street driving.

I've used several different ratios, as you know, Santiago...

128:1, for my car anyway, actually resulted in LOWER gas mileage, which to me means that you've passed the ratio that provides adequate lubrication for the engine. She didn't run hotter, just used more gas.

I say this about every two weeks, it seems, but I've found that a 105:1 works best in my NA (happy medium between the amount of blowby that "adds" to the oil system, and what I perceive as adequate lubrication based on gas mileage)

 

128:1 is still fine, it is a bit more oil than the stock injection system supplied.

1.3 ounces per gallon is a 100:1 ratio.

128:1 would be like saying 128 litres of gas to one litre of oil? so roughly half a litre of oil per full (or nearly full) tank?

 

no, the US is the only country on the planet using the customary system.

 

First, SEARCH - this has been covered enough times, and I'm sure ALL PARTIES do no want to rehash another war.

Second, we were informed RACING ratios are more like 50:1 to 75:1.
We premix all our serious race cars at those ratios (basically twice as much versus street ratios) when we take it to the track.

I'm closing this thread. This has all been covered many times before, and is thoroughly covered in several archived threads. Some people swear by premix, some don't. You'll have to read all the info and then make an informed decision.
